Im about to get a motor off a kid the motor was completely set up for stock stroke and ported, milled stock head, ect ect. He decided to throw a 4 mill crank in it or atleast he said he did and wants to sell it to me. How do I know if its truly a 4 mill he has no pistons or anything. He offered to let me take the cylinders and everything off

Measure from the top of the rod and the top of cylinder. You should be able to KNOW from there. You'll be close enough to figure the length. Proly wont be exactly 54 or 58 but very close.

What the heck. I dont no why my Know is like that. Didnt mean anyhing by it.

I understood that much im just confused on how to measure the stroke??? Theres no pistons so I cant measure it by going that route and im really not to sure of any other way to do it.

do you or him have any old pistons to throw in there,if not,put the stock crank and 4mil crank next to each other and you should be able to see the differance, when I bought mine, put it next to my stock one and could tell the webbing was bigger and I think the rod pin was in a defferance place and my 4mil crank is a long rod,so you'll be able to tell if the rods are the same size or not, hope this helps

Rod length WON'T tell you a thing, they do make long rod stock stroke cranks and they do make stock rod 4 mil cranks. So that is not a reliable way of telling. You should be able to compare a known stocker to what you have if it is out of the cases and tell. Iff you dont want to split the cases to find out, you are going to have to put some pistons on the rods and put the pistons over them and measure the stroke the old fashioned way. They dont have to be the right pistons for a 4 mil, the just have to fit in the cylinders so you can measure at TDC and BDC and do the math.

split the cases and pull the crank see if its welded it may be shot. ware is the kids resets for the parts .it wont turn over without a spacer plate either.

Lol no harm down alf im not a big soft that gets offended over anything. It has no spacer plate, or head setup for a 4 mill. He apparently didnt think the whole process through and when he found out about needing the head redone and everything just stopped? Thats the story hes feeding my anyway. Either way I cant run the 4 mill crank with his cylinders anyways the porting is for stock stroke it will be way off from what I understand.
