F!NE DR!VE
Ok so I was invited to do a trail ride along with a bunch of guys all riding snazzy "updated" 4-jokes. Well I do the trail ride which was about 3 hours and my Banshee survived and has a little under half tank prior to fill. So long story short, I had a kick ass time on my first trail ride and Im looking forward to do more and maybe some motorcross stuff too. So one of the guys on the ride invites us to have lunch and some bbq at a nearby beach. We all looked legit hauling a bunch of trailers with some pretty quads and of course my outcast/ass kicking Banshee. So theres this lowlife that my bro used to work with a few years ago and hasnt seen since. Well they start chatting and he looks at the quads on the trailer not knowing that me and my bro own some of them. My bro tells hims thats his Scraptor and this guy looking at the Banshee and asks to check it out. My bro tells him its mine and this guy pretty much makes the scene and says thats HIS Banshee that got stolen 6 years ago! We're all shocked and wonder if hes for real or just tripping (my bro tells me this guy is a lousy coworker and possibly a former crackhead). Well he was like for reals so we listen to his story after he calls the cops. His FIRST story was that was his Banshee which he scored for $3500 "6 years ago" and got stolen a little while after. He claimed that his had red handle bars, a custom seat, and *ahem* a "homemade" front sprocket. He was for certain that this was his quad. I beleived him until that bs about the sprocket (its a STOCK 14 tooth moron!) and this guy is jobless prick and with his history, I doubt that he would even cough up $3500 for '96 Banshee. He kept rambling about the sprocket though and this guy didnt even notice the FMF Fatties, Boost bottle, and other shit that was on the quad when I bought it. Then his SECOND story is that his friend has the papers to prove its his bike. Why would your friend have the papers? He calls his "friend" and explains the situation and it seems like his friend wants nothing to do with it and hangs up on his ass everytime he tries to call. So Idk if he was trying to SCARE us into giving my quad to him (btw I have no records and this guy has some). On another note, here in Guam quads dont need to be registered cause theyre label as "OFF ROAD" vehicles and cannot be on the street and let alone ownership requirement does not apply. Now the cops show up and being asses as usual flaunting their authority blah blah blah. 1 cop got my info and he telling me that I can get arrested for obstruction of justice and other bs EVEN though I didnt know I bought a "supposedly" stolen quad. They ask that prick about the bike again and he tells the cops about the seat and handlebars. They tell him that he dont got anything unless he has documents and a vin number. He tells them he reported it stolen 6 years ago and the cops should help him. So the cops jot down the last 4 digits of the vin number cause it was hard to read and they notice something that I didnt. The engine number has been ground down poorly. So they decide the wanna impound my quad because of that.. but they didnt cause again there was NO PROOF. SO now I still have the Banshee but now IM worried that lowlife wannabe COULD actually come up with documents and own me. But the weird thing is, if my quad is stolen then why do I have 2 factory Yamaha keys to start it. Can I use this as leverage or should I be scared and hope all this blows over and is forgotten. I mean I stayed and wanted to help the guy out but still I have the Banshee. Im still waiting for a call from those incompetant cops (yeah they couldnt even help my friend whos car got hit in a hit and run from a visitor at HIS neighbors house!). Should I NOT give a fuck and mod this SHEE cause I pretty much did alot of work on this badboy. I just dont wanna show up at the dirt track and have this happen to me again. BTW Guam is SO small and just about everybody KNOWs everything that happens. What would you guys do?
F!NE DR!VE
BTW this is the same Banshee I bought from a flea market for $900 from a guy I didnt even know was my uncle. We talked to him and he said he had that Banshee for a long time just sitting at his house. So I dont know the history of this quad and I WANT to make it MY own by changing its looks. Ive already put on nicer tires, got it running top notch, and plan on painting it and modding it more later. But now Im stuck cause I cant get rid of it cause the cops will be on my ass and I dont wanna mod it right now cause I may have to give it up . I just cut the fenders, put on my bros old Sraptor bars and his Banshee seat for the mean time in hopes I dont get another accusation.. Am I a bad person for growing onto this thing? I mean the guy claiming its his DOES NOT even look like he'll use the quad for what its for. He doesnt have gear and let alone look like a MXer and probably would not even use PREMIX, just like a chump. I need help.... :ermm:
shanYE west
That a raw deal man.. As far as the keys go.. its nothing but a plug and one big plastic nut away from changing it to another key. But.. They might not know that.. Hopefully this guy was just on crack and didn't realize what he was looking at.

Ruko
I bought a couple quads a few years ago that seemed too good of a deal.. but I got the serial numbers checked with the police before I paid for them, just to be sure they were legit. Just get the police to check the serial number and see if it's been reported stolen... if not it's all yours and don't worry about it. If it has been stolen you're out $900.00. Although I don't know what things are like in Guam... but here the police could look up the number in about 30 seconds tell me if it was clean or not. Also here the number on the engine doesn't mean anything... it's just the number on the frame that matters.
jamebo
If he had reported it stolen they should have been able to pull up a record of the report, so if they haven't by now they must not have one. Also, the guy can't seem to produce a title even though he says he has one. (or his friend, rather) Something definitely sounds wrong with all that. RollinRhino
I wonder if that would work? Walk up to someone at a trail event and claim he has MY quad. No proof, just that it was mine and got stolen.

Also here the number on the engine doesn't mean anything... it's just the number on the frame that matters. Idk if the cops can look up the number. They took it down and didnt call in anything. I dont really care for the frame but Ive put some work and money into the motor and its running top notch right now and would hate so see someone taking credit and having fun with my work. If he had reported it stolen they should have been able to pull up a record of the report, so if they haven't by now they must not have one. Also, the guy can't seem to produce a title even though he says he has one. (or his friend, rather) Something definitely sounds wrong with all that. Idk if he or anyone can provide a title cause its not really required to own a quad here but would be good if I had one. Idk, my bro said this guy likes to talk bubbles and is one of those story tellers who talks alot of shit (ex. "thats a homemade front sprocket. thats the only one like that" *anyone can see its stock and has never been messed with*). My guess is it might be a broken deal where his friend ACTUALLY owned it and this chump was dreaming of owning the Banshee and kept lowballing and buggin his friend about it and his friend just sold it and said it was stolen so he wouldnt bug him about it anymore. And so he claiming its was his. i'd say get a bill of sale written up ASAP and once u got that with the vin n shit you'll be good, the fleamarket guy will be the one in trouble if it's stolen... I can get a bill of sale done up but with NO vin papers to prove it. I didnt want to get anyone in trouble so that why I didnt run when the guy called the cops. I really dont wanna drag my uncle back into this cause hes military and hes currently in Cali and I gotta wait till he gets back to get the real story. Man this sucks. Idk what to do.. So I guess Im gonna keep riding it like its mine till I get a call .
jharader
Run the vin. if it wasnt turned in being stolen, its your bike they have NO way of proven anything
onebanshee
Just fix it up so it does not look like any other banshee out there. Or if your really worried about it, buy a new frame and do an engine swap. But, i agree with whats been said, if they did not do anything right then or by now, you should be good. F!NE DR!VE
Run the vin. if it wasnt turned in being stolen, its your bike they have NO way of proven anything Heres the catch, the Yamaha dealership does NOT use the VIN to track down owners. They use names. My bro called them yesterday and made a story about buying a Banshee and gave the lowlife's name and his friend too. Turns out that NONE of them are in the records of ever buying/owning a Banshee and according to Yamaha, alot of Banshees were sold so you get the story. Then today, I had the secretary call her cop friend and see if he can find any answers with the VIN on my Banshee and the names of those 2 clowns that "used" to own it. Turns out that hes gonna give his friend at Yamaha a call and find out (basically what my bro already did). Well that cop never got back to me along with the other cops so Im assuming that this is not gonna go anywhere. But I'll wait some more and see what happens . mdhc500
Man... That sucks... This is what I would do... If it at all looks like you are going to loose your bike I would strip EVERYTHING off that bitch and give that crackhead a stripped down frame, some ugly ass red bars, seat, and the 14 tooth sproket. I would take EVERYTHING else and put it on a new frame... Also in the mean time try to score a Bill fo Sale from the flea market guy... Good luck!!!
