A good aggressive 20" tire?

I love maxxis SUR Tracks much more than the heavy bear claws. They are not light but they are aggressive, they only come in 22".

I live in SA, some of the highest dunes is not to far in the Namib Desert (search online). Some of the guys there climb these dunes at 50 degrees C when the sand is so hot and you climb that dune by feet, your feet just disappear in the sand, you just cannot, they make bets against each other to climb those when the sand is so hot, no paddles allowed, what bike wins? Banshees, Now the part that you guys here will not really like is that these dunes are double the size than those hills, you cannot see people on the ground, they look like tiny pencil dots.

The thing you want here is wheel spin, we climb them with Razrs, not razor 2.. because paddles is not fun...

So I do not have a clue how these coal hills of you guys feels or how soft they are compare to the sand We have coal hills here also but hot sand is just as bad, but for sure we can climb hills of very steep angles with normal tires which is still good, off cause its not the ideal...

I don't tell you guys by any means that I will climb your hills with normal tires, but I'd find it hard to believe...

Listen to this...

A good maxxis razr can move enough sand to power you out of most situations, a maxxi on a HIGH hp motor will be able to move more sand than a bear claw on a less higher hp motor???!!!!!!! when the low hp motor cannot pull the bear claws as good as say maybe a 10mill cub, the 10mill cub will turn those maxxis and move much more sand, because you will be able to go to much higher gears with more power up that hill, its just logical sense..

I don't know Loco and his no friend of mine, just talking out of my own experience.

Fast forward to 2:30. Jason Dunkleburger, Pat Brown and Dustin Wimmer climbing Coal Hill with Razr style tires, on 4 strokes.

surely those cant be razr style tires meat. those MUST be huge swamper tires because those coal hills cant be climbed with any normal dirt tire. i just dont believe it could be done. the guys from PA say it cant be done. and those surely cant be 4 strokes.. those guys must be riding banshees with high hp and lots of wheel spin disguised as 4 strokes. no way a 4 stroke can make those kinda hills..

for their arguments sake. the hills they are climbing on huevos with them 4 strokes, those are the hard packed, well traveled hill climbs that they are doin in those clips, and nothing like some of the ones pabansheematt is doin in his films, honestly, im not one of their pa boys , im just giving facts here, they get pretty packed down if there is no rain for a while and people keep riding them, also those 450s have the best of everything and professionally built motors,of course you realize that though, but alot of the ones pabsnehematt is doing, not many people, if anyone, does them, so its just loose virgin coal/gravel which you sink right into tryin to walk on it, alot of the hills at the "coal hill" area are well traveled by lots of people day after day and get packed down, coal hill gets very busy, ive made it up quite a few with 20" holeshot gncc's, the PACKED ONES, some sides of the mountain are real lose and yuo just spin spin spin and sink without 22" mud style tires, ive tried both, the mud tires on my friends banshee (now being parted out by Lift4dr) work much better and the ground clearance is a huge key to makin it up somem of them, ive hit rutted sections with my little 20" tires and stopped ddead in my tracks 300 feet up the hill, its not fun, no one said you COULDNT climb any of them with razr style tires, you can climb some of them, but its just not ideal to use those type of tires, maybe this will help alleviate 5 more pages of bitching

I am not going to start any argument... also not going to read the last 10 pages again, but I am sure someone did say there is no way you can climb them bu a razr style tire... just saying, that is were the argument started..

This is true, its not as loose as the videos taken at the school bus hill or the hills along RT901. But those guys in the Huevos vid were climbing some of the steepest hills at Coal Hill, and they're not well traveled hill climbs by any means. Iv seen a lot of guys climb coal hill over the years, and most guys can't reach the top and some guys can power up the hills..... and then when the racers come out, its a whole different game. If you think your a good rider, your nothing compared to these Pro's. They have no fear and boundless energy. I'v seen Dunk rail the whoops and track for 20 minutes of the hardest fastest riding you'll ever see, then without hesitation he'll head for the biggest hill at Coal Hill and FLY up the mountain like it was a bump in the road, and 20 seconds later he's launching off the top and barreling down the hill at mach 1, only to come back to the whoops and hit em all over again. There's a lot of amateurs at CH, there's lots of good riders at CH, there's a copula guys that are pretty damn good riders.... and then there's the Pro racers. Dunk and his guys can climb anything at the CH area, thats for sure. School bus hills and that loose stuff on the other videos is another story. I think they'd have a hard time, but I'd bet my money that Dunk could make it. Like MJ said, they do have the best machines and they're setup perfectly.

BTW, I never seen this thread till a day ago, I missed all the action so its time to stir it up, meat-style

I have some questions...

How much do one of these mud tires weigh ?

Could the extra weigh of the mud tires negate the traction advantage they give ?

Besides mud bogging and climbing coal banks with very loose coal I would think your at a disadvantage riding with mud tires anywhere else.

I used to climb the bigger hills at Coal Hill many many years ago, but not anymore. The main reason is they scare the hell outta me. Another reason is if you roll down the hill, your expensive quad is going to be trashed.

Here's a quick video for yas. Jim Stack on an XR650 climbin the wall at Coal Hill

i didnt even read that for a couple reasons..

1. no punctuation. a comma every few words does not constitute punctuation.

2. there are no paragraphs. just glancing at it gave me a headache.

yep. and they also say that 4 strokes arent able to do them. well at least the ones with no run.. whatever. the shit can be done with regular tires on a fuckin 4 stroke. bam, loco was right. one of these days though i still really like to get out there and ride that shit.
