Misssppelllleddd
Anybody know where to get a good plug lock? I think I really need one just for added assurance.
ClimbAnyHill
Trinity Racing has one but why do you need it?
dajogejr
Ok....here goes. If you need a plug lock for insurance, get an extra cylinder, set of pistons, crank...and cases while you're at it. Plugs should never back out. The engine is trying to tell you something. Either the domes are incorrect for your setup, you're not using enough octane for your setup, there is too much compression, too much timing, an air leak, or a combo of any of these. Plugs should NEVER back out on a healthy, properly tuned engine. Plugs rattle loose from detonation. If you lock them in place, something more expensive WILL BREAK....period. These are the worst things ever invented, period.

Well put Dave, when are you gonna come out with a book cause i'll buy one for sure...lol Plug Locks and Boost bottles should have never been produced
dajogejr
Hell...I would rank plug locks worse than boost bottles. At least the boost bottle will take time to crack the intake rubber. It won't help performance....but it won't hurt it by any means. Just a gimmick... A plug lock however...that's asking for engine damage... The pathetic part is it is sold and made by Trinity. They build a lot of motors...you'd think they'd know better. If they put that on my motor and it lunched on itself, it would be through their front shop window....promise. ChippewaTSI94
Get a torque wrench and torque your spark plugs properly. I have worked on motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, and 1000HP full tube chassis NHRA drag cars and have never seen a spark plug back out of a motor. That is, when it's installed properly. If you're going to buy a plug lock you might as well get a roll of safety wire and start running that through every single other bolt on the chassis. They all vibrate equally as much as the plugs do, and since they have smaller threads, probably have a greater chance of backing out. dajogejr
Chippewa... While I agree that a plug should be torqued properly (which...none of us do...lol) they can and will back out if something is not right. I had a problem on my bike with incorrect domes, it popped an oring, sucked coolant...skyrocketed the cylinder pressure and backed a plug out. Twice. And I knew something was wrong.... The point is...if the motor is suffering from detonation, if you're lucky...it will back the plug out. Not all the time, sometimes there's a metal party and the piston is invited.... A spark plug lock is not needed on a properly tuned motor...and if the motor is not tuned properly, you might get lucky....and not suffer so expensive a lesson other than a backed out plug. dajogejr
Actually... NGK doesn't specify a torque spec on their plug, but they do specify how far to turn the plug in on the initial install as well as once it's been removed an reinstalled (squished the compression/seal ring)... I usually turn it in almost a full turn once it makes contact on a new plug, half turn on a used plug. xXBlessedWithDeathXx
It looks like this... what are the chances you have a pic of the underside? i cant find one. if it couldnt be used as a wrench then its genuine crap and worth it weight in scrap.
