knight ryda
i cleaned my air filter today, and put more foam filter oil on it, now my banshee won't run right. it will rev a little, but not too high. i also noticed that there's alot of white smoke coming out the tailpipes. it also seems to run better with the air lid off. i didn't think just by cleaning the filter would cause problems. would i need to rejet just for cleaning my air filter. my banshee is 100% stock. what could the problem be? thanx Edited August 17, 2008 by knight ryda

jamebo
Did you squeeze out all the excess oil good? And yes, there is a K&N filter available for it. You should apply plenty of oil to the foam and massage it in well, but then squeeze out the excess to keep it from clogging.
dragbanshee
Go for the K&N replacement filter, you can find it at Rocky Mountain ATV
knight ryda
what's the best way to clean the stock air filter?
dragbanshee
what's the best way to clean the stock air filter? I used to clean mine with dawn dish soap, it works really well. You just need to rinse out well and ring it out good and even let it air dry. Then you can oil it lightly. If you think you have to much oil just get a rag and wrap around the filter and soak it up with that.
jamebo
I use the PJ1 filter cleaner and oil. The cleaner really works well and gets all the dirt out. What I do is spray it down good with the cleaner, and let it soak a few minutes. Then rinse it out with a hose from the inside out. Then I have a tub with warm water and Dawn dish soap and I dip it in that and squeeze and work it into the filter good. Then rinse and repeat two more times with the dishsoap water. Then let it dry really well, I usually let it dry overnight. You want to make sure it completely dries or the water will displace the oil in areas, letting dirt in. Then your ready to oil. I run a K&N filter on my Shee now, but that's how I use to clean it, and still do with my other quad and my wife's quad. I take filter cleaning/oiling very serious..... the lifespan of the engine depends on it.
banshee freak
A good way to oil your stock filter is to pour some filter oil in a baggy and squeeze your filter in there. that way your filter will suck the oil in and your sure to have the same amount of oil everywhere...just something I used to do. ClimbAnyHill
Banshee's need to breath & run better with the lid off, get a good airfilter!! K&N preferable but Uni works good too! No need to soak it in oil. A light spray all around will do the job, that's enough for dust to stick. Sounds like you over did it and clogged the pours! knight ryda
yeah that was the problem. i put too much oil on the filter. i just squeezed alot of the oil out and now it runs like before. i think i'm really gonna get the k&n filter so next to i go to clean the filter i won't have this problem. i didn't know that too much oil would effect the way it runs that much. oh well, i guess lesson learned! INFINITIED
just reclean filter & let the filter dry completly before you oil it .. most bikes run no filter for the increased air flow. some bike are tuned that way 2 . how i do it is i soap the filter with the kn filtercleaner, then i let it soak for 15 mins. get a BUCKET OF HOT WATER. dunk the filter in the bucket of water a few times, the water will be black , change the water and do it a few more times. in some cases you might need to resoap the filter again and repeat. alow filter to air dry , never blow compressed air through it. (will damage element).
