Stuck in 5th and 6th

Took my banshee for a quick blast down the road today. Did a run thru the gears went to slow down and turn and it wont shift down. The shifter will move down and engage a gear but it is solid in that gear the shifter has no up to down play at all. pull it up and it will click into another gear and you can easily move it up some like it's at the top of the pattern, push it down at it shifts back down a gear and stays there. The shifter is harder to move between these 2 gears then normal. It has never exhibited any trans problems before and runs smoothly in the two gears it has(5th and 6th I believe).

try taking off your clutch cover and seeing if your shift shaft is releasing on your shift star. Mine did the same thing, my shift star wasnt able to move to the next gear because my shift shaft kept getting stuck and wouldnt let it grab the next gear. DONT try to force it, you can bend your shift fork. Just take off the cover and see wtf is going on. You will figure it out

Fifth gear spins on the input shaft of the banshee. and the inputs shaft where this gear spins has no grooves in it for oil toget into it, its a relativly common thing for bikes that are low on oil or bad oil to weld this gear onto the shaft. and the dog ears on the gears bind and wont let it shift. so it could be the gear or a shift shaft/star problem start simple pull off the clutch cover and see if its acutuating properly.

I have a bad leg, so I have some probs with the shift shaft at times. Pull the clutch cover off, and see if the shift shaft is off the star. The spring is really weak, so if its jacked up at all, replace it. Fairly cheap. It will work for a while longer if its just off the star, but it will do it again.

I got it fixed turns out it was the piece on the end of the shift shaft, the part that actually grabs the star. It had gotten loose and could wobble to much. I hammered the rivet thing that hols it back down tighter, and modded the shift star while I was there. Now it shifts awesome.

Mine was stuck in 2nd, way out in the middle of the dunes. What a slow ride back

Exact same thing that happened to mine, glad you got it fixed.
