Milky oil

Recommended Posts

Hey guys.

I just recently got a banshee. after the second time riding the banshee shut off while i was braking. I was able to start it and get back to the house. When i tried to restart the banshee there, i noticed the kickstart was stuck. After about 30 minutes the kickstart worked fine. when I checked the oil i found it was milky? I read that it could be the impeller and the water pump seal. can anyone tell me where to find these parts? also where I could get a guide on how to fix the problem since I have never worked on a shee before..

thanks

A clymer's manual is a banshee owner's best friend.

You can get them on ebay used, or maybe someone here has an extra one.

These manual give you step by step with visuals on how to do anything you need to do on a do it yourselfer

^^^^^^its the banshee bible

Water pump impeller seal, or even the o'ring that seals the clutch cover water passage... You will see what I am trying to say if you take off the clutch cover...

Any yamaha dealer should be able to help you, throw a billet impeller in their... Billet impeller you can get on e-bay..

Why did the kickstarter stick? It sounds like it was getting hot and the pistons started to stick in the jug from expansion. This would explain why it died when you where braking, as well as why the kicker wouldn't turn over. 30 minutes to cool down and it is likely that the expansion would have receeded and it would kick over again. The rapid heating up coupld be caused by lack of water (which you mentioned ended up in your tranny, right?) or from improper jetting or both.

I would pull the carbs and reeds off and have a peek at the intake side of the pistons and look for scaring on the pistons. An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If there is a problem you may be able to hone it out instead of punching it out to the next size or two later if it locks up solid! Also, if it locks up solid it could ruin the crank.

the previous owner may have ran it through some serious puddles and water may have got in. change the oil run it for a couple minutes then change again. run it and check oil. if its still milky then replace seals and water pump

thanks for all the help guys.. I opened the clutch cover today after I got all the parts together. I found that it already had a billet impeller installed, but I went a head and changed it to the new one I got. I also found a piece of the fiber from the clutch discs. The weird thing is, there was no missing pieces from the existing clutch discs. I think maybe that piece was what froze the kickstarter because there was some wear on the clutch hub where I found that piece. So replaced the discs any ways, and then when I was putting the screws that go in the springs one of them broke and we almost had to get a whole new clutch hub. Anyways we got it out and now we just got to wait till Tuesday until the parts place opens.
