mdhc500
I'm just curious who your talking about? I will go so far as to say this... If that comment pisses the person reading it off, I would just about 100% say its directed directly to that person...

mdhc500
I know... how f-ing dare I ask for advice! What I learned from it...? It does not make you feel any better to throw a tiny little piece of metal into a lake!
okbeast
I never knew you had deleted a post but something didnt seem right in the 1st few posts where you and dajo's panties got in a bunch. As for microfiber towels, i'm not sure why you're dissin on 'em. What else out there is better and wiping off crap and not scratching it? Hell i dont even run plastic so they stay in the truck. Oh and taking advice from someone just because they RIDE the bike doesn't mean they know shit about working on 'em. FYI for future inquiries

Meat
Why would a degree key shear ? What would cause it to shear ?? All the key does is index the flywheel to the crankshaft, if everything is installed correctly and the motor is running fine, I see no reason why a key would shear. The key fits in two grooves, one in the crank, one in the flywheel, the flywheel is torqued on tight with a big ol' nut, the crank and the flywheel are now indexed together, the taper on the crankshaft, the keyway and the big nut keep the flywheel from moving on the shaft. Are the key's just not produced with good quality. Why do some people run em for years while others can't keep em at all ??
dajogejr
Averages...that's it. Some people may have good luck with them, the average is against them. I would be willing to put money that 100 keys shear or fail for every one timing plate....if not 200. And the key is not adjustable... My bike likes to run on 9 degrees of timing. They don't make a key for that. But loosen 3 bolts and my plate accommodates that. What if his bike likes 3 degrees...or 6?
Meat
So...if I came off brash, my fault...and apologies. Thats my problem with you dude, you always come off as a brash, arrogant know-it-all and I'm gunna call you out on it everytime I see you busting on someone's balls, let alone a neighbor of mine. Take your attitude and tone it down Mr. Wonderful. No one likes when it when your reply to new guys the way you did in this thread. And get a new gripe about me, cause the political and religous threads won't ever stop and I'll continue to talk to people about that stuff. Take a look at the past one hundred posts of mine, none of had anything religious or political about em. You reek of arrogance "Mr. Credibility". Maybe its just the way you word things Daddjjsoy, try to be a little nicer when dealing with people. You have a million posts but when they read like they read in this thread, it doesnt matter how many times you've posted, you still come off as an asshole. mdhc500, every message board has these ignorant people "answering" questions, you just gotta ignore em. You just gotta sort though the good advice from the bad. I live up on Walnut street, west end. I hope to have my latest quad together in a few weeks and then we can all meet up, but right now, i'm currently quadless.
Meat
Averages...that's it. Some people may have good luck with them, the average is against them. They don't make a key for that. But loosen 3 bolts and my plate accommodates that. What if his bike likes 3 degrees...or 6? The +4 key is made for guys with a set of pipes, and an aftmkt air filter\modded airbox. That would be the majority of Banshee guys. Once folk get into the mega-dollar motors like yours, then they should tune their timing to work best, but for the VAST majority of people, the +4 key is ideal. The plates cost a bit more(altho the cast one reasonalbe), they require you to remove the stator and remount it, they require you to remount the pickup coil, properly gap the pickup coil and put it all back together without damaging a 15 year old brittle stator. Not a big deal right ? But when the majority of guys are running the basic mods, then the adjustablity of the plate, the extra work installing it, the tuning and price of the plate doesn't seem that advantagous anymore. And betting on 100 key shearing for every timing plate failure is a stupid bet, fucking timing plates don't fail. Ya know how people like to share past problems they've had.... well everyone who ever sheared off a key is going to tell us, but the thousands and thousands of folk who installed em and had no problems.... for years and years... those guys are NOT going to reply nearly as much as the guy who have had problems, I'd betcha the averages are that most people had no issuses with em. I still can't figure out how they're shearing if they're properly installed, lets be honest, they can be a bitch to keep in the notch and line everything up without it moving, but once its installed properly the only way I can see shearing off the key would be a manufacture's error, or the crank would have to suddenly stop spinning from a high RPM. I'm not saying I have the answers, but it is a good question. FYI you can advance your timing +4 degrees without even buying a key or a new timing plate. Meat
maybe the keys shear because of the powerful sudden acceleration of high hp motors ?? But if that were the case, then PAbansheematt woulda ripped his in half by now. And my Banshee is no slouch either, 390 cc's, full MX port job, 20cc domes, pipes, no airbox, and I didnt shear mine. Im not being an asshole, I just wanna know "why" these keys are shearing for you guys ??

I would guess they are cut and forged (hopefully) by the looks of them. You can't get that process correct over 1 million times, you sure can try though (lean 6 sigma?). P.S. sweetie don't you think the pot is calling the kettle black when you bust on dave for being an arrogant ahole?
