Wildcardracing
Yamaha specifies 10w-40 yamalube 4R, but it's really up to the individual. I run type f atf in mine, clutch grabs hard, it's light so it offers less resistance and it's cheap. Downfall is that it needs changed more frequently. A lot of guys run the gear saver oils or light weight gear oils. Just make sure you don't run synthetics because they will cause your clutch to slip and eventually give out. My honest recommendation is a motorcycle specific 10W-30 or 10W-40 if it's just for recreational riding.
J-Madd
I run Klotz Flexdrive...but ATF is supposed to be good, as mentioned, but never ran it myself.

spurdy
B & M Synthetic Trick Shift ATF. Recommended by Kevin at HJR. No issues and it grabs well. Using with a lock up clutch also. No issues so far. SP

jbooker82
I would run belray 80 w gear saver oil. It is made for 2 stroke transmissions. You dont want a hypoid gear oil that stuff is made for differentials. josh
