stroke it baby!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I need some info on strokers. I know there was a post earlier about 4 mill strokers and what it will do. The post was useful but I'm looking for a little more input. Since I'm replacing the crank on my '98 shee I thought why not put a stroker in it? The problem for me is I know I will have more power and all but I'm not sure how it will affect the bike and what sort of stresses will be put on the motor. My 'shee is mostly stock I have DMC 2 into 1 exhaust and v-force reeds and K&N filters. I am also having to have a rebore done since my bike seized up which is why I'm doing all this to begin with. The rebore will put me at 64.50 and so obviously I will have new pistons to match and I'm having .020 skimmed off the head. Somebody said you need to have a port job done to take advantage of the stroker but what if you don't have that done, will there be any negative effects or just less power? Do I need to have any other engine mods done besides pistons and rods and what not to match the extra stroke? Basically I would just like to know what else needs to be done to compensate for the stroke because I don't have a bunch of money to throw around and don't want to get myself into a bad situation.

so how much does a port job cost?

Somewhere around $300-500, but I am not certain...

It would be best to call around and find out from the source. Maybe someone else has just had some cylinders ported and can provide a more accurate price.

And if you are wanting to know who does the best work, you will get many different answers, for many different builders do excellent port work.

I would start with Herr Jugs Racing, but do some searching around until you find someone who can meet your needs, price, and time line.

the beginning of next week, i will have a set of stockers with a agressive dune port from F.A.S.T. for sale for quite a bit cheaper than a port job.

Are they ported for a 4mil crank?

I am only asking because banshee1856 wants to go with a 4mil, and sometimes stock cylinders ported for a stock stroke cannot be ported again for a 4mil... :ermm:

FAST ported cylinders will make someone very happy!

So were I to get it ported is there some sort of specific porting job for a 4 mill or can I just go with any type like a dune or drag or aggressive trail?

No Spacer plate and cut domes is the way to go

You need a 4 mill specific port job because the pistons fall 2mm farther down in to the bore, (the top of the piston at bottom dead center will me 2mm below the transfer ports) and they also pop out of the cylinder 2mm.

With a spacer plate the pistons will fall 4mm lower and be the same hight as stock at TDC.

ok so when you say 4 mill specific port job you don't mean as in "porting and polishing" just as in getting the ports to line up right. So do you actually need a "port n polish" with a 4 mill? Sorry for asking so many questions all this is new to me and I feel like I missing something here but thanks a lot for the help.

You dont have to get a port job. It will run with no problems on stock porting. You wont have near as big of a power gain without porting.

A port job is when they opean up the ports. Make them taller, wider and different angles. When the piston slides down and uncovers a port that is what controls with the exhaust is expelled or when the fresh air and fuel come in to the cylinder.

A port job on a 2 stroke not only improves flow it aslo changes when things happen. Porting a 2 stroke is like putting in a different cam in a 4 stroke. That is why it is verry important to know what your doing and not try to do it your self unless you really know what your doing.

This is what I say to people that try do do there own home made port job.

You wouldnt take a welder and grinder and make your own Hot Cam for your Car, Truck or 4 stroke atv would you?

ok thanks that helps out a lot. I think that what I might do is go ahead and get the +4mill stroker and get the spacer plate and all that done till I have some more cash for a good porting job done. Will a spacer plate come with a hot rods +4 mill crankshaft or will I have to get that seperate? Also will it affect the compression? if so how much? Thanks again this forum has been the biggest help.
