banshee1856 Posted June 26, 2008 Report Share Posted June 26, 2008 (edited) hey guys i am in the middle of rebuilding the ole shee after she seized up on me and took the cylinders in to have them honed and decided to go ahead and get the head milled. My question is, and I know this comes up a lot on this forums, but how much should I have milled for the most power gains? I live in Shreveport , Louisiana so I'm not very much above sea level but I don't know how much exactly and also I still want to run on pump gas. I don't have many other mods other than DMC 916's, K&N's, V-Force reeds, and will be replacing my crank with a hot rods and putting new wiseco pistons in it and will also be advancing the timing +4 more than likely. 87bansheeguy Posted June 27, 2008 Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 My bike only has pipes, reeds, pods, timing plate set at +4, and i just shaved 35thousandths off my head to make it equal about 20 to 21cc and i can run 93 to 110 octane fine and its a great power gain go on ebay serach up banshee milled head and theres a guy on there where u tell him how much u want shaved off and he has new stock heads he shaves for u its 65$ great bang for the buck Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Thanks for the help. I have a stock head that I can flycut however much off you want. It is blasted and ready for paint. Just need to know how much to remove. I went ahead and got it milled .020 and I'm going to run high compression pistons as well.I found a brand called Numara pistons they look good and are cheaper than any Wiseco's I found and money is kinda tight right now, anyone know anything about them or have any experince with them? You guys think I will still be ok on 93 octane with the .020 and hi comp pistons? I'm new to all this motor work and stuff so I'm just kinda learning as I go along. jamebo Posted June 27, 2008 Report Share Posted June 27, 2008 What kind of compression you end up with dictates what kind of fuel you'll need. Anything over 160 psi I believe and you'll be looking at a mix of fuel. I don't know alot about milling numbers, but I run a coolhead with 21cc domes on pumpgas around sea level. I re-checked that website and it for sure says that there is OEM style pistons and Hi-Comp pistons. mopar1rules Posted June 28, 2008 Report Share Posted June 28, 2008 i was told that namura pistons are junk. i would stick to wisecos or pro-x. i personally have pro-x pistons and have had no trouble or complaints. with shaving .02" off the head, i don't see why you would have to recut the squish angle, cause i believe the squish clearance is still plenty safe. I think i spelled the name wrong earlier tho it is Namura pistons here is the website http://www.namura.com/index.htm Squish should measure around 1mm or 0.40"-0.045". I am not sure what it is on a stock motor with stock head gasket, but, by milling down 0.20" (or 0.5mm) you would reduce your original squish by that same amount. I think that at 0.020" off the head your squish will be fine as long as everything else is OK. As things warm up and the pistons come to operating temperature they are going to expand and the squish will lessen. You don't want the piston to grow to the point that it comes in contact with the head. Just check the squish with some small soft solder after you get it back together.
