flywheel problems

Recommended Posts

i bought a motion pro flywheel puller . i got the nut off crank not much trouble and threaded the puller in flywheel but when i got the puller bolt bottomed out i couldnt turn it and finally with a 1ft. cheater on it, twisted the dam head off know i have to get it out ,it might as well be welded in place cause it is STUCK . is this common for the flywheel to be pressed on this tight? and would using an impact really make that much of a difference ? any help would be appreciated

Impacts are absolutely the way to go. It takes much less torque to remove a bolt with an impact due to the "smack and release" action that an impact delivers. And to support the previous statement....flywheels can be a bitch! Just don't get in a hurry or be too mean with them or you will end up needing a new one!

The first time using the puller to take my flywheel off, I swear I almost did the same thing, along with almost popping a blood vessel and breaking my wrench. Finally I said fuck it, picked up the impact gun, and the flywheel popped right off. Def the way to go.

if the puller gets real tight you can smack the head of the puller with a hammer to break it loose too. you broke the head off the puller? if its that tight maybe try hitting it with a hammer a couple times to see if it pops loose. just don't go crazy and bend the crank or mess up the bearings by wailing on it.
