b00sted
This isn't really hardcore drag-racing, but how does an 03 banshee compare to a 06-07 YFZ 450? I know someone with a 450 and he swore up and down it was the quickest production quad out there...Just wondering if there was any truth to that. Also, just wondering, stock for stock, how the two would compare.

The YFZ is better in every way except its easier to make horsepower with a banshee, and the aftermarket for a banshee is limitless .. but stock for stock the YFZ is faster (assuming the riders are of equal skill)

b00sted
u need some good bolt ons or a little portin to stay with a yfz... frogger .. nice avatar !!! lol I've been looking at a cool head with domes to up the compression. Probably convert to run on E85 and up the compression/timing to make use of the 105 octane. Plus the supporting mods needed to run that fuel, and bolt ons. dajogejr
Don't waste time with E85...go right to methanol. Porting, compression increase, timing increase. Then...you'll have to modify the chassis/suspension to take advantage of the power, then you'll have to modify the clutch and transmission to be able to shift with all that power. It's an expensive road you're heading down. If you're just going to be an occasional/play drag racer, get some good pipes, 35mm carbs, a dune port, 4 or 6 over swingarm and a FAST clutch to hold the power. b00sted
I'll probably just start with the usual bolt-ons and then probably just build a cub eventually. I want to stay away from methanol. At most I'd run straight ethanol, but meth is a little too high maintenance for me. What I'm aiming for is a fast trail bike. Something that makes nice power, but can still be ridden all day without any problems. Probably a +4 arm at most so it's still capable in tight trails, and I hear the Pro Circuit and FMF pipes have great powerbands. Frogger
Not trying to hijack the thread but thank for the props on the avatar! Just do the right bolt ons: pipes, filter, timing plate, coolhead, and you shouldn't have a problem with that YFZ.
dajogejr
With similar weight riders and skill level, bolt ons vs a YFZ with a pipe, air filter and a cam or timing mod the shee will still lose, maybe get it in top end on a long run. Hard to make up the 8 to 10 HP and 50 plus lbs or weight you're giving up to the YFZ...not to mention they are holeshot machines....

Maybe I was a better rider than the dozen or so YFZ riders that I beat....I dunno. I have seen a lot of people with horrible riding skills make a piped Banshee look slow compared to a YFZ, however...and it holds true that some are always gonna run a little better than others, even with identical mods. camatv
i will say the banshee with minor mods is more reliabe than a yfz with piston, pipe ignition and cam head work seen many many 450's droping cranks or spitting valves out or blowing pistons to hell. now in a 4 stroke that mean a LOT of cash. the yfz is somewhat comfortable but stock to stock they are very rigid and bumpy to ride they are built to go fast and jump far. i PERSONALLY like my modded 450r its has great power and is very comfortable to ride. BUT the ltr's are in my opinion the most comfortable and better suspension. get one of those a slip on and nerfbars and you will really really like it for general riding and night riding. then build OR buy a fast banshee for drag racing. Banshee_04
I have outrun just about every 450 I have raced even some piped ones on my bone stock banshee i even outrun araptor 700r last tuesday that everybody said was going to outrun me the only bike that seems to give me any problems are the 07 08 450r. With nothing done to my bike i consistenly get 7.4-7.5 at 65 mph on a 500ft asphalt track
J-Madd
By stock, do you mean stock pipes and filter? You must be a hell of a rider to beat a piped YFZ on a Banshee with stock pipes; or a bone stock 700R. (though my 700R runs like a turd...I think I needed to adjust my PCIII map..I got beat by a Z400 on it, and I'm a good rider[--have yet to run it with the Barker Duals])
