jimbob
thats sounds like a nice easy install. BUT ive got to ask.............wouldnt it be easier/cheaper just to install a +4 degree key?
magz
thats sounds like a nice easy install. BUT ive got to ask.............wouldnt it be easier/cheaper just to install a +4 degree key? its the same degree of work, i mean really, youre talking about 15 minutes to complete the entire job. if i was really competative i could probably get it done in 6-7 minutes. plus timing keys have been known to be "weaker" weather they are or arent i dont know but iv never heard good things and i dont believe in using a thinner key then stock specially with all the rotating force there is on the crank shaft. to me your just asking for something to mess up. yes a key is cheaper then a plate. but you get what you pay for. with the key you may always be at +4, but say you do stuff to your bike, you cant adjust you key, what if i want to go to +6 with higher compression domes? i dont want to have to buy another product to do this. so in all, you be the judge, there the same amount of work weather its a key or a timing plate.
1.6i
an advanced key is trash, a buddy sheared one off in the middle of the dunes, we had to pull him back to camp
yagiv
Hi guys, do you think i need to advance my timing? i have: fmf's k&n filter v-force 3 290 main stock head and jugs TNX 4 replay
05.Banshee.SE
If you aren't detonating, there isn't any need. If I were you....I'd buy a coolhead, some domes, and advance the timing. But that's just me.
WiII
I just want to know if your Banshee made some backfire after you get the timing plate. Mine is a +4 and sometimes he backfire. So let me know ! Thanx
Banshee_Bandit
My Specs: -first oversize pistons -got 290 Main jets -FMF Fattys & Powercore silencers -K&N Air filter have no probs whatsoever with the engine, purrs like a kitty cat. Am just wondering would the timing mod +4 make any difference? Better response to gas, better acceleration, max speed ?!? Also whats the point of doin it ? Couldn`t find that info really until now... Appreciate your help in advance...

Appreciate your help in advance... you'll gain a noticeable difference in your bottom end, after putting mine on it would gain speed quicker & pull harder. from what i understand though youll lose a little top end but i havent noticed that. id say next to pipes and re-jetting this will be your biggest bang for your buck. That sounds like a statement to me Worstcase scenario; What would happen if I would completely screw up the timing , in terms of setting it to +6 or even -4 or so ?!? Am just being curious Edited January 7, 2009 by Banshee_Bandit
magz
That sounds like a statement to me Worstcase scenario; What would happen if I would completely screw up the timing , in terms of setting it to +6 or even -4 or so ?!? Am just being curious +4 timing is safe for pump gas in general 93 octane +6 could cause pinging, due to the piston being to far down before the spark ignites, in which case i believe you'd need to buy a higher octane fuel like 101 or 110 octane to combat the advanced timing. also since the higher octane gas will be baught you could probably bump down to 19-17cc domes and raise your compression levels. -4 could cause some backfiring sputtering in general weaker power since the piston will be on its way down already when the engine fire's in that cylender, iv heard rumors about someones timing being so negative the motor acually ran backwards instead of forwords. mclark408
Help guys???? Flywheel will not come off. Already stripped flywheel puller threads. Have a flywheel puller for a lawnmower on there right now. This thing will not budge. Looks a little rusted behind flywheel. Sprayed lubricate and going to let it sit overnight. Any ideas guys? kbone77
great post, how-to, and pics! I'd like to add-make sure the woodruff key is parellel to the ground (not parellel to the shaft's taper), this is per the manuels. Once you get the flywheel back on -Tight! Start and run it before putting the cover back on, goose it a few times, and make sure the flywheel is perfectly straight (no wobble/vibration). I had a crank snap off -Hotrod's says an imbalanced flywheel can cause/contribute to that failure. Also an improperly installed woodruff key can cause the flywheel to come loose while riding, then the key and flywheel can be damaged... JUST FYI
