Banshee has a new friend

Recommended Posts

whats the black ride. a raptor.

No but it looks like it huh.

It's a Kawasaki KFX450R. Aluminum frame,fuel injected,and reverse.

It's nice to just jump on and push start and go, but it doesn't give me the thrills that the Banshee does.

Yea all the new 4 strokes look a lot alike.

They hold there own.The Kawi has a lighter front end and a shorter wheel base

making it a little more nimble, but IMO all the jap 450's are so close in comparison it's hard to choose one

unless your a particular brand loyal person. The Kawi is really, really corked up in stock form,

therfore it gets beat up alot in the magazines in the power department.

Very sharp, I've always been partial to the KFX450's for some reason. QUAD really liked the one they tested when they first came out, but other than that I've noticed that a lot of guys aren't huge fans of them. I'd say it's a good choice for somebody who doesn't have a fat enough wallet to go right out and pull a KTM or Can-Am 450 off the showroom floor, though.

lookin good man! hows the kawi ride?

Just got back from a 35 mile desert/mountain trail loop.

Here's my review

Things I like about the Kawi:

-It's a blast in the tight and twisty stuff

-Feels light, fun to jump and wheelie

-Perfect ergoes for me (5'10'')

-Pretty torquey

-Very close ratio tranny

-Suspension feels a little more plush than the other guys' 450's (YFZ,LTR)

-Reverse (I know gay, but I used it so many times)

Dislikes:

-Front end wanders all over the place (light front end, short wheelbase)

-Kept looking for 6th gear (it's got 14-38 gearing but the tranny must have some low gears in there)

-Seat feels like a 2x4 (It's worse than the early model YFZ's)

-5th gear pinned feels like my Banshee in 3rd

Overall I'm happy with it. I wanted to buy a KTM525xc but not for $3500 more

The Kawi will do things my Banshee won't do and vise versa.

Nice rides.

A couple things to fix some of your problems with the 450.

To help with the front wondering, get some new front meats. Dirtwheels did a project kfx and put some radial holeshots on it front and back. Said it got rid of some of the wandering.

For the gearing, just jump up a tooth on the front sproket.

For the seat, Quad Tech makes a foam kit that add's another 1in of foam to the seat while making it look trick, because of the cover.

And for the power, an exhaust and open airbox/filter would do wonders. Piped 450's are pretty darn fun. The banshee will still be faster, but the mods on the 450 still make it pretty potent.

With all of that, your set with a real nice ride.
