OK, I give up

I've searched and searched and tried everything I can think of. So here's what's going on.

 

If I give the bike a little gas the idle won't come back down. If I give it a bit more the rpms go up and yet again it doesn't come down. But as soon as I give it a good quick rev it comes right back down as it should. So the first thing I thought was the slides were sticking. So I took the carbs apart, cleaned the heck out of them with carb cleaner and a rag, put a light coat of grease on the slides and put the bike back together. But it's still doing the same thing.

 

The bike wasn't doing this before I did the following. (I did all of this while it was apart for a few days)

 

-Installed CPI inframes

-320 mains

-27.5 pilots

-air srews 1.5 turns out

-installed adjustable timing plate set at +4

-removed dynojet needles and put stock needles back in

-installed K&N and removed lid

 

 

If I take the filter off and look down at the slides and work the throttle the slides go up and down just like they should. Absolutley NO sticking at all with even the slightest movement. But as soon as I start the bike and give it just a little gas the sticking begins. I don't really know where to start since I've already claened the slides real good. I could be wrong, but if the throttle cable was frayed or binding it shouldn't matter if the bike is running or not.

 

I started thinking the stock needles may be bent but I looked closely and they don't seem to be bent. And there's no air leaks anywhere that I can find so I don't think that's it.

 

I'm lost??? LOL

Both. It happens as soon as I fire it up and doesn't stop even after it's warm. The throttle sticks wide open too very often. A few times I had to hit the kill switch to stop it.

 

I'm uploading a video of it now to help show what I'm talking about. I'll post it here in a few minutes once it's uploaded.

Next time I'm doing one thing at a time. LOL, I don't know if it could be something with the timing plate, the needles, the jets or maybe a twisted the throttle cables too much while messing with them. I do know that where the throttle cable splits from one to two it came out. I just put the throttle cable back into the boot on the splitter.

replace the cable? may be catchin on the inside somewhere

 

 

That's going to be my next move unless someone else is certain that it may be something else. All I know is my 13 year old nephew is really looking forward to a ride I promised to take him on next Wednesday so I want to fix it asap.

No it's not pinched anywhere and it works fine with the motor off. It only sticks while running.

 

I just took it all apart all the way down to the reeds. The intake boots look good with no cracks. The rubber boots between the air box and carb are perfect. I've got the throttle cable out too so I'll just replace it and keep my fingers crossed. This sucks not knowing what is causing the problem.

 

Does anyone think it could be anything to do with the timing plate that I just installed? I know that pickup has to be fairly close to the raised sections on the flywheel. I got them as close as possible without touching.

NO.

 

 

I'm going with cable in a bind. Been there, done that. Let the cable all the way loose, idle all the way down, then look at the slides...and start it up.
