94supercam
Hey guys, I got a 01 banshee that came with a 6 plus swingarm. I just got it rebuilt an took it riding last weekend. I cant climb ANYTHING!! I tried stuff in differant gears an had more luck in 3rd but was going way to fast. The swingarm I was told was Houser?? What is the stock length from the center of the pivot pin to the center of the carrier? I just want to measure mine to see if it is 6 plus or not. I plan on cutting down the one that I have, any advice or tips I should know? I work as a welder for a living in a fab shop so thats the easy part just need some demensions. Also should I cut it down to stock length or a -2? I climb pretty steep stuff an dont want the front end to be up all the time but I also was good traction. Thanks alot, Later Ryan H. 2001Stroker
I have no idea what the stock length is. I have a +6, and I don't have any problems climbing hills. I've climbed some steep ass hills with it, too. The longer swinger gives you a better platform, and when you're going up a hill, it puts alot of weight on it, so it shouldn't spin too much. Are you sure yours is a +6?

I believe you are confused on the extended vs shortened swinger terms. If your Banshee does actually have a +6 swinger, you shouldn't be having the front end coming up very often, or hardly at all (unless you have some mean engine work done, which by the way...what are your engine mods??) If you lengthen a swing arm, that puts mass away from the axle, allowing the front end of the quad to stay on the ground. If you shorten your swing arm, this will put more of that mass on the axle since the axle is being brought underneath you, allowing the front end to pop up like nothing. However you also have to determine what type of terrain you are mostly riding, what sort of hills, and well your engine mods. If you run a shortened swing arm, you will notice a lot of traction being as most of the mass is sitting on the axle. When you start running + length swing arms, you are moving the majority of the mass away from the axle, which will cause less traction. rubberneck
I kind of took it to mean he didn't have enough traction to climb the hills. if that is the case, the extended swinger is hurting you. what type of terrain and hills are you riding? What kind of tires are you running? give some specifics, and im sure there is somebody on here that rides the same stuff and can help you out? 94supercam
I understand the differance between a shorter or a longer swingarm. I have no problem with the front end coming up. I just need traction. I will prob never be at the dunes. All I ride is trails an hillclimbs in Pa. Not really alot of jumps or mx. I have paul turner mids, 35mm carbs, trinity cool head, v-force, k@n pods, weiscos, dyna tech ignition, thats the basics, no port work or anything. I also have plus 2 plus 1 a-arms. So thats adding another inch out front. I'm really just wonderig if I should shorten it to stock or go -2?? Later, Ryan H. If you ride alot of hills, I would just wack a couple inches off and call it good. I Hillclimb in IN/IL and a +4" swingarm seems to do me just right. hercalmighty
Do you have an extended axle? That might make a difference too. If I were you I would try a standered lenght swinger first and see how you like it before you go and cut up your extended swinger. If your swinger is in good shape you could sell it or maybe trade it with someone on this site. Where are you from anyways? There are a ton of guys from PA,NJ,NY on here that could give some advice on what to run where you ride.
