Alright, I have always wanted a car but I dad wont loan me his truck everytime I go riding so I never got one. Well all my buddies are getting mustangs and camaros, so I started looking around for shits and giggles and found a 96 Trans Am with Vortech v2 supercharger, rockland 6 sp trans, headers, 3" duals, trick flow elbow, Vette rims, etc for $6500. Car is in great shape. My mom always had firebirds, trans ams, ws6s but she doesnt know shit about them and I dont know many Gm cars myself. So here are my questions. The guy claims 385 to the wheels, believable but how hard is it to do more stuff to it? Cam,etc. Doenst look like it has much space to work on without pulling the motor or front clip. You guys think its worth it to sell my truck and be screwed for winter? Sorry for the rant, just want to know what you guys think about these cars. Thanks in advance

Sounds like a decent deal. I wouldnt want that to be my only vehicle but thats just me. I had a LT1 car for a while, they run good but were kinda a pain in the ass to work on, half the engines under the windshield.

V-6? 385 is low for super'd 350

They aren't, your old small block for sure ... the bolt on's seam endless...I wouldn't want to drive diive mine in the winter ( hell I don't even drive it, when its raining LOL) ..you'll have to decide that for yourself, they're fun, but at the end of the day, they're a toy NO rear leg room, low to the ground... ( if any of that matters ) just a few things to think about

hey see what size tires are on the vett rims. I have a set to put on mine... been kicking around what size tire to run (19 & 20 " i think)

Yeah im going to have to do some serious thinking about it. For 96, these cars only had like 275 stock, but when I think about it, 385 does seem kinda low. The tire sizes are 275/17's in front and 265/18's in the back. Thanks for the input guys

Ya if it is a blown Ls-1 that is a very low number. What pulley?

if it is a 1996 then it has the LT1 motor. same motor as mine. they have 275 at the CRANK stock. with the mods listed 385 seems about right but it could be more. the vortech supercharger isnt the best out there but it does seem right to me. but putting a cam in i have heard is a pain in the but. the front clip sometiemes. radiator. everyone has their own way of doing things. i mean for 6500 it is a decent deal but it doesnt hurt to try to chew them down..

my bad, did not know it was a 96. 97-02 had ls-1's. Man if it was me stay away from lt-1's, there is so many ls-1 cars out there to be had for like 7-11k. Hell i have one for sale 2000 LS-1 6speed, LID, and exhaust. 88k silver and has suspension and wheels. 9.9k is what i want out of it.

yeah the ls1 got put into the 98-2002 trans am. lt1s are good motors but they require a little more watching over because they are OBD1. ls1 cars are OBD2 my bro has a 2002 and it has more power all around but the lt1 makes more torque with a uptop powerband like my banshee with the t5s

yeah 385 is low with the vortech, depending on the gearing, and boots level, elevation, etc... for 6500 i would have it taken to a performance shop and checked out befor buying.. sounds like a nice car if its done right. and DO NOT wash the motor from the underside EVER optipark on LT1 is a major PITA but is 96 so it should be a nice one and easier to tune and keep and eye on because of the OBDII
