OK, I'm embarassed, but gonna ask...

 Sorry guys--I just keep reading references to a "Cub motor.." Is that like a special dune/drag block or something?

I know, I know--I'm a complete noob to Shee's...

It's a mono block cylinder made by CP Industries. Basically it comes already full drag ported for you. I run a stock stroke one on my bike and they flat rip with no bottom end at all. All top end power, but lots of it.

Ahhh...Makes a lot of sense now. Good for drag racing or fast duning, but probably not the best for lugging it? It took a bit to get used to my Banshee out on the big Dunes--I can't be lazy on it like I can with the KFX. :geek:

And I forgot to add they are basically the non-powervalve version of the cheetah cylinder, hence cheetah cub. Goto http://www.cpindinc.com and you can check out the cylinders they make for banshees and 250r's and other one-off cylinders for big drag racing motors.

well sort of. they dont have the PV and they use stock componants i.e. reed cages head and what not

Cool! Thanks for all the info. My motor is basically stock, but when I need to go through it, I'll probably start with the cool heads/smaller domes/porting and maybe larger carbs. I know that engine work is a slippery slope--once you get started, its probably difficult to say "enough..."

Your right, once you start, where do you stop?.........here is the rule I follow, get the bike fast enough to beat all your friends you ride with. That way if you get passed like your in reverse by a stranger on a tricked out Shee, you can still turn to your homies and say "STFU, I can still beat you"...lol...

I hate doing this on someone else's thread, but I have a question about the cubs. Is CPI the only company making these? If not, I'm guessing that they are the only one that I should buy, huh?. Probably the best bang for the buck. I have a stock cyinder with a 68mm big bore kit and 4mm stroker/long rod, but I am thinking about going monoblock, with the same crank. Not anytime soon, cause this engine is new and I'm cheap, but just for future reference.

I wouldn't necessarily say they are drag ported stock either. compared to a stock cylinder maybe, but there is quite a bit more you can get out of a cub drag-port wise.

Not nearly as much as you can get out of stockers, comparatively. A good builder can get 5 to 15% or so more power out of them. You can EASILY double...and rarely triple the stock output of stock cylinders. They have drag port timings, but can be coaxed some more....

Is CPI the only company making these?

Yes. They are the only makers of the cubs, cheetahs, and quite a few other line of cylinders, both banshee and non-banshee specific.

However, there are a LOT of other companies that make banshee based cylinders setups.

Twister, TRex, ESR...just to name a few.

The Cub and Cheetahs have similar timings in common, that's it. Different bores, different head, different intakes....

Yep, in your case, it would be bolt on and go. All you need is the 58x68 cub monoblock and you are in business. Perhaps different domes for your head depending on what you have now and where you want to go, but you already have the 4mil bottom end so you could be rockin in no time and probably less than $1000.
