sittinlow
i wondering wether or not to paint my frame black. I always hear people saying paint wont last long but i was wondering if i put a whole bunch of coats of paint on there will it be good or if i should just spend the money to get it powdercoated. if anyone could tell me about how much it will be to get it powdercoated that would be cool to. theshee
I run a custom paint business and will still recommend PC on a frame. It holds up better.
AJC
i painted mine orange..and its chipping in exposed areas. but, my buddy painted his with automotive paint and automotive clear coat. all done with the spray gun. its holding up great and not chipping anywhere. if you can get your hands on some automotive car paint and clear coat id go that way. but the clear is expensive and you waste along on a frame. because of all the small tubing. the only reason why i didnt do it because its expensive and money was hard at the time. if you know a bodyman willing to do it for you for cheap than go for it. a gallon of clear plus the hardeners can run you 3 or 4 hundred bucks here in canada. but.. there is also the option of pw. bansheerider253
powdercoating does hold up well however around here its around $300 to get a frame done. I painted my old frame black with automotive paint and clear and it held up fine for 2 years and probably still is i dont know because i sold it. the only places the paint came off were on the front where i had to have it towed back to camp a long distance. my friend did his frame powdercoated about the same time and it holds up but i have seen chips on his also. black paint is cheap here is what you need some black paint, reducer, clear, and hardener. should cost about $100 depends on where you go. then you will need someones gun, compressor and yada yada. so it depends on what you are willing to spend. im going to be painting my next frame here in the next few weeks Edited April 17, 2008 by bansheerider253
