Willie the wimp
New to HQ but have been checking out the info from this site for about a year now. I am thankful for the info and time you all put into this site as it has helped me out with things I have wanted to learn. I know everyone has their own opinions about which pipes they like and have seen many posts in regards to one set of pipes over another. However, I am wanting to know what you would run and why, if you had a stock engine but were willing to do other mods such as reeds, advance timing, air filter, and such without modding the engine itself. The mechanic at the local yamaha dealership tells me to run FMF Fatties and Core 2's, but my brother-in-law has them on his banshee and I am not all that impressed with the sound or the performance. He is definitely faster than I am right now but not nearly as fast as I would have thought and that is after the mechanic at the dealership tuned it all in for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
crustydemon
You cant go wrong with a Paul turner mid range or a Pro Circuit Platinums. Good all around pipes IMO.

Michael Jackson
if everyone used the search button to the extent you guys wanted, there wouldnt be many threads on here other than "post your banshee pics"... not trying to be a dick, just the truth, please dont hate me djoajoer! dajogejr
Not hating...but the things that have been covered a million times could be searched.. He'll find more info that way that starting this thread. Now...specific issues, etc., that's fine. But pipes, tires, oil, boost bottle, etc., they've been covered a gazillion times. Dinner
Is there a certain type of riding you do? That would help break down the question of which pipe would be best.

Hilarious
so ... which boost bottle is best anyways..? the best kind are the ones filled with Nitrous. back to the topic at hand......... Willie, I wouldnt knock the FMF Fatties. The ones on your friend's bike may not be tuned right. You did mention that the dealer mechanic did the work? I tried like hell to get bigger jets when I first put my fattys on and the dealer would not sell me bigger main jets because the felt that the stock jetting would be sufficient. I had to go else where to get bigger jets. I would not trust a dealer to tune my bike. It hit pretty hard with my fattys and no air box lid and vforce3 reeds&cages. Toomey T-5's seem to the the popluar, do-it-all pipe around here now. I've had the fattys, they did perform well on trails and general riding. I've had CPI's, definately an improvement over the fattys. They are considered a drag pipe though. The fitment on them was not as good as the fatties. And last I have shearers. I have not run them on stock ported cylinders so I do not know how they would perform. They do however perform well on ported applications but I would not reccomend them for a trail bike. those are the only pipes I have experience with. Maybe someone else with experience with other brands of pipes will chime in. there are a lot of different pipe makers. As others have said you can do a search and probably find what you are looking for then come back to this thread with a conclusion.

My Shee was stock when I bought it, and after installing the Fatty pipes, K&N and jetting I noticed a really nice increase in power. I was pretty happy with the upgrade over the stock pipes. Like Hilarious said, your brother-in-laws Shee may not be tuned right.
Willie the wimp
Bro...welcome to the site. Please use the search. It has been covered a gazillion times.Just like a boot bottle and what kind of oil to run, or what builder to use....it's been covered... Thanks for the input...as I said though I have been following the site for some time now and I have seen plenty of posts on pipes....but the ones I have seen mainly have people posting that they like one particular pipe over another without much explanation as to why....this is really the only reason I posted this in the first place.....with all the reading I have done on this site I was coming to the conclusion that the T5's were among the favorite pipes here....I really just want all the info I can get before I buy is all and when you go onto the manufacturers sites they all say that they are better than the others, so how is one to know without either trying them all or talking to people such as yourself who have way more experience...oh, and just so everyone knows I mainly do trails and not so open sand areas, so I never hit 6th unless I am on a gravel road racing friends....thanks for the help. p.s. every time I have used search it comes up with an error message
shee rips
i have fmfm sst's and i like them. i havent owned any other pipes, but when we both had only pipes and k&n filter, mine hit quite a bit harder, on an older motor. the fattys have a nice smooth pull, where the sst's give a yank kinda. bottom end seems good too, as far as banshees go lol. supposedly t6s are best for a stock motor, but ive never really been a fan of toomey. dont know why, seems like good stuff  if i were to buy new pipes they would be dmc 916s
BansheesRock
I have a set of FMF Fatty's on my banshee w/power core tips. I really like the punch they give. Adding these pipes was the first step I took towards performance enhancements. It made a difference right away from stock. Since then I have jetted my carbs., installed V-force 3 reeds, 20cc dome cool head and most importantly K&N clamp-ons. When I threw out the air box and put in the clamp on filters, that is when everything came together and these pipes showed their true colors. WOW! Dinner
So you like to ride trails, don't get to high gears much, etc. So you will maybe want to get a pipe that comes on sooner than the T5's, Fatties, etc. I can't think of the names right now, but I know there are a few pipes out there that are set up for more low end oriented riding. If you wanted a good amount of low end, you could also try a 2 into 1 pipe....but those are for mainly tight trails, not wanting much top end power. Others will chime in about the low end pipes being as I can't remember the names of them :ermm:
