Im struggling with this guys and have heard different arguments so here it goes... With a bigger Carb do you need a larger or smaller main jet.

Thanks

I just talking in general ..... take for instance Im going from stock to 34 Tmx's. With the 26 you have a higher rate of air flow because of the smaller area so you would think it would pull more fuel than a larger carb with a lower velocity pulling through it. Then some say you are pulling more air in with a bigger carb and you need to have more fuel to go in with that... Both make sense to me Im gonna start where I was with my stockers but I was just asking to gain some knowledge on the subject. :geek:

Thanks Zach

you have answered your own question, you just dont know it yet!

With the 26 you have a higher rate of air flow because of the smaller area so you would think it would pull more fuel than a larger carb with a lower velocity pulling through it.

thats right, so with the larger carb, it isnt sucking as hard on the main jet as the smaller carb, so the main jet needs to be bigger to get the fuel flow through it

so to recap that one: larger carb = larger main jet

Then some say you are pulling more air in with a bigger carb and you need to have more fuel to go in with that...

that is also correct! so once again, larger carb = larger main jet

your two statements dont contradict each other, they go together!
