okbeast
Was doin a little dune racing at LS this past weekend and had a little incident. Here's what i think happened, of course i don't really know cuz u never really do when you wreck. For those of you that know LS, it was at the back dragstrip, we were goin downhill. I lined up all the way to the right, and no one else was to my right side. Well we launched and i got a helluva jump, clicked through the gears, beat everyone of course LOL. Well I felt like i had kinda started drifting to the left some and i was out in front, and we had gone at least 800 ft.+ so i was done. I left off the gas and since i had felt like i was drifting in i just started slowly drifting back to the right cuz i knew (thought) no one was over there, when all of a sudden BAAAAAM some mexican (not being racist, and he couldnt speak any english either, lol it was quite interesting) smokes me on my right side. Slid right through my peg, smashed it into the brake lever, and rammed the brake lever in to the clutch cover cracking it. Also smashed the right pipe into the frame, and you can see where his tire actually hit my frame. I guess the bike flipped and of course smashed the upper frame into the gas tank like every banshee that wrecks does, and apparently the radiator was crammed back up against the tank as well. I'm fine tho, no injuries hardly at all, i think the other guy was ok, but he was like 50 so im bettin he's alot more sore then I am. One of my buddies said you could see where my peg ground around in one of his rims. It basically seemed like i got t-boned, but on a banshee LOL. Here's some pics, they pretty much explain it all. shanYE west
That sucks dude... Glad you didn't get hurt. I'm always worried about that shit happening to me in our dunes. When we get too many bikes running I usually stop racing. When I'm done with the run I pretty much come to a stop and look around before I turn. I like to think I'm cautious when it comes to stuff like that.. but.. I still managed to get my hand smashed at work even though I was being carefully.. Just goes to show ya that shit happens no matter what. what can ya do.. its all part of the game and its inevitable..
okbeast
Yeah, when the bikes start to get where there's barely 2-3 feet in between I just won't launch, you can watch from the side and 5/10 bikes wheelie off the line and dont go straight, it's just not worth it. I like to think i'm careful too but apparently I wasn't careful enough. shit happens, life goes on. just gives me a good reason to upgrade
dajogejr
Glad to hear you're ok.... Yeah, I'm not big at racing at the dunes. It's ok when there's only a few bikes, but a buddy almost smoked some idiot that was too close to the strip on the return. We're talking almost a 90 MPH collision... Plus, the dunes get all whooped out, etc. I've said it before...the dunes doesn't proove who is the better rider or who has the fastest bike, it just proves who has the biggest brass ones.. shudakeptquiet
How do you fix the frame once it's bent down against the tank like that? Or is it just new frame time at that point?
fastbanshee8
There were about 10-12 of us racing on that same strip at LS, when a whole string of people drove right across the middle of the strip. It looked like a family group, and I was out front, so I got everyone else to slow down. Yeah, it really sucks when people don't pay attention to what's going on around them, because someone can get hurt, or even worse, besides tearing up somebody else's stuff. Some people are just naturally stupid, I guess.

inthemail
i was supposed to bring my camera i but holy. id hate to see a pretty chopped frame get touched up top of the rad. i bet if i roll mine from the looks of it the whole thing will collapse upside down. almost guarentee it, even. but thats the trade off im willing to make to have more "spring" in my shees "step" lol
