welding my crank

i dont have time to get my new crank to the shop and get it welded before my trip. my friend is a certified welder and i know he will do a good job. anything specail need to be done after? any kind of balancing? let me know asap if you have any input

No need to balance. All you have to do is make sure the pins and mains are clocked properly and spin true. :thumbsup:

Don't get carried away adding too much weld. Just a serious tack at each crank pin end, acts just like a tight keyway to prevent twist. I have seen a cranshaft welded all the way around & the bearing bosses were not concentric. There was 0.010 TIR because of too much heat (weld) input.

Do both side's of the pin's need welded inside and out or just the outside?

So is this something i can do with out a problem?

The crank i have was just rebuilt but was not welded.

I was thinking i would go ahead and weld it up since a shop rebuilt the crank and i am hoping it is trued.

 

What do you guys think?
