FireHead
I have recently become interested in the PVL ignition systems due to the fact that I am lazy (long story for another time). I understand that to run them on a larger Banshee style engine you have to have a good understanding of engine operating principles, which I think I can cover....... What I would really like to know is who uses them? Why did you choose to use one? What is the engine configuration you are using it on? What timing do you have it set at (static and operational curve)? What are the pros and cons of using one vs. a traditional CDI system vs. a Dyna CDI? ...........and yes I know this thread will probably win me the double nerd award. :geek: :geek:
dajogejr
you have to have a good understanding of engine operating principles, which I think I can cover....... You've been smoking from the boost bottle again, haven't you???? LOL ...........and yes I know this thread will probably win me the double nerd award. :geek: :geek: You passed double a long time ago...I think we're into quadruple or so now...LOL. Like we talked about. Some people love 'em, some hate 'em. My friend at the track has a lot of demons with his. My other buddy I believe has run one with pretty good success...I think. I'll have to give him a call and see his toughts, if indeed he's run one.

Yeah, I just wanted to hear a variety of opinions about the stupid things since the are $500 new and I am having a hard time justifying that as something I will just buy to play with without ending up using it.
SoCalinIt
Mark... Talk to bada450r... He ran one on his 421 cub, and now on his Mini Twister motor... He knows a ton about these. I'm also picking one up for my 14mil Cub... All the guys I race with run these with great success. My buddy Tony runs one on his 12mm Cheetah, and man... does it run! Along with about 4 other bikes, that have no problems mind you, I wouldn't NOT have one after seeing these bikes run. Bada told me the set up is very easy once you have the basic idea of what the PVL is doing. Also, you can talk to ozerone (Tommy)... He runs them on all of his bikes. Just my thoughts. lonestar
I'd like to try one. Alot of people say pain -in the ass to set it up. Need dail indicator to find tdc to set the timing. also they say they work better on the smaller bores 350. I P.M. a few people over at planetsand about them, their stating that I'm better off using all stock ignition on the motor that I have. But still curiosity always gets me. I have the dial indicator with adaptor for the spark plug hole. That's as far as I got. I pulled the plug on this prodject after p.m. few pepole on this ignition. They say it just ain't worth it. But still like to try one.

I was hoping Bada450r would chime in here at some point.......... I have a Phoenix trip coming up soon and will be tracking down Tommy. I have already decided that I am going to buy one at this point, I just need to figure what I want to do with it. I guess the stupid thing just interests me more than I can stand. :geek: :geek:

bada450r
I've got one now, but I am not sure if I want ot run it or not. just run it see how you like it...i really dont know that much about them, but i have run one now for a little over a year with no problems.........i run it at tdc and go back 85thousands[on the dial indicator]......its also alot lighter and revs faster.......also the gaping from the pvl moons to the flywheel i just wrapped painter tape oround the fly wheel 2 times and that has always work out great....also dont forget to put a good ground strap......you are going to need a dial indicato and a pvl fly wheel puller.......all i know is that all my buddys run the pvl and have had no problems   Edited April 3, 2008 by bada450r

njbanshee
I heard bad stuff about them, and east coast atv wouldn't even install one if i wanted. So, i went with a dyna. I'm happy with it.

dajogejr
There you go Mark...like just about everything.. Some good, some bad... I can only go by what my fellow racers around have experienced...obviously a small part in the overall scheme of things..

How did you arrive at that number? I have a PVL puller, so I am good there. Can you explain mooning the flywheel and the tape thing. Are you saying that the flywheel center gets out of round? How does that happen?
