new 421cc motor new clutches slipping

Recommended Posts

hey guys finnaly got it running I got the motor broke in and now Ive been playing around with it and after 3 rd the clutches are slipping there new barrnetts kelverwith heavy duty springs I have plenty of play on the cable I dont know what else to check any ideas ? thanks matt

I had the same problem with my 421, could keep a clutch in it for longer then 2 days. I ended up doing alot of research and testing and finally came up with my own clutch that I now sell. You can check it out at my website www.rjatv.com But if I were you I would go to a lock-out, thats the only way to go with as much power as your putting down now.

THe key to your problems is NOT a lockup! You have a pm. You want to trail ride your "drag port" stock cyls???

To answer your question , Yes you can trail ride w/a lockup, but you may have trouble shifting it...

Well i disagree with you, I ride trails and all types of riding with my 421 and my lock-out was the key answer to my problems.

RJ...we talked about this...

I had a very potent 4 mil cub with no lockout, and it's the same clutch I'm using now on it's 4th year.

Your problem wasn't a lockout either...it was worn or mis-adjusted components, or cheap clutch kit.

With the override you have, it only makes sense to get a lockout...but,

I still strongly disagree that you need an lockup for a 4 mil stock cylinder bike if it's not going to be a strict drag race bike.

A FAST clutch with HD springs held in my 4 mil cub just fine, JT's clutch has held up over the test of time, too...

Your right Dave, we did talk about this on the phone more then one time, and if you remember i had a fast clutch in my bike (which you recomended because it worked for you) with all new components, not saying jeff's clutch is not good, all i am saying is if i would of had the lock-out sooner it would of saved me alot of time and money from clutches/oil/gaskets. This is from my experiance,, not saying everybody should go that route, but it worked for me and was my fix to all my clutch problems. I was just stating my exp on the situation, i have had my share of trouble keeping a clutch in my bike an you of all people know this Dave. I also thought this 421 we are talking about was a cub when i posted the first time.

Fair enough... Just stating from my own experience as well with a few different motor configs, as well as a few buddies of mine, JT and Brent...

Out of curiousity, have you tried the clutch kit you're selling without a lockup to see if it faired any better?

Well you are entitled to your opinion but im trying to save Procharged some money here. There are at least a dozen HQers that have run the F.A.S.T. Racing clutch/components on even bigger motors than this with no lockup and no troubles. We Ride, Race, and "BUILD" what we sell and have been doing it for many many years with extensive research. With all this being said Lockups are very usefull especially for track drag guys like asphalt racers etc. but i still say its not needed for Procharged's stock cyl setup and what he is wanting to do with it.

Edit: I see you posted when i was still typing. You see he had a stock cyl bike and was wanting to trail ride it!!!?
