mgwarrior350
I am looking into building a drag banshee that will run a 11 sec quarter. I am starting with a roller the real help I need is building up the motor. Should I start with a case and work from there or should i get a stock motor and do mods on that. I am probably looking to run alcohol so i was wondering if someone could get me a list of the parts I would need to get for the motor to make this project happen. I understand how to do all the work its just getting the proper parts for what i need. This quad is just for the drag nothing else.
MSBansheeDrags
run it in the 300 ft dirt or sand drags....is a lot more fun and you will likely get a lot more help with it since it is much more common...however, if you are dead set on asphalt try: www.planetasphault.com (yeah it has the extra "u" in it) dbr
Handyman
I can't believe I'm going to say this...go over to planetsand.com and ask this same question. There a lot more drag racers than there are here.. The few people here know what they are talking about but if there is more info over on the planetsand. there a lot of pages of info that you will answr most of your questions... dajogejr
Hey MG... A nicely worked 4 mil, 7 or 10 mil cub will do what you want in the right chassis, etc. The biggest problem, IMO, is going to be fuel and gearing. 1/4 mile is a long haul....so, you'll have to step up the fuel on these bikes. Fuel pump, large billet bowls....and free flowing fuel valves. This is of course, if you're going to run methanol. You can also get different primary gearing for your crank/clutch that allows you to stretch your gearing even further. Start with a chassis, first and formost. For pavement, no reason not to build a rigid frame. If you're going to build a 4 mil, it's pretty much a drop in and bolt together motor. If you're going to build a 7...you might as well build a 10 mil since the cases have to be trenched....and the price for the crank/cylinders is the same. You'll need an override transmission, lockout clutch...etc. Greg from Whitaker cuts a 1-6 override tranny. However...and I can not stress this enough...with this particular tranny, you MUST COME TO A COMPLETE STOP with the clutch pulled in before you even think about downshifting. Trying to downshift with this tranny while the bike is rolling WILL BREAK that tranny. That will give you the most gearing options....but that tranny is by far the most picky. a 1-5 is not nearly as picky....you just lose 6th gear. That ought to be enough to get your head swimming....LOL.
bigboybanshee
run it in the 300 ft dirt or sand drags....is a lot more fun and you will likely get a lot more help with it since it is much more common...however, if you are dead set on asphalt try: www.planetasphault.com (yeah it has the extra "u" in it) dbr Why is it more fun? When have you ever run asphalt on a banshee to know the difference in which is better? Just because you like 300' doesn't mean that everyone should do as you...people are allowed to form their own opinions. I think if you're new to asphalt, you should start running 1/8 mile first, on gas. Master your 60' times, familiarize yourself with the surface you run on, practice tuning the shorter passes before you step up to 1/4 mile. It's real easy to burn up a bike on 1/4 mile if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Once you get to where you're running consistent in the 1/8, change your gearing and move up to the quarter mile. Once you feel that you've got that under control, switch to alcohol. That'll give you more time to learn about it too, and what you'll need to run it successfully. These are just my opinions, I've run asphalt several times before, it's a lot of fun, if more people would run it I'd be out there every weekend instead of on the dirt. bigboybanshee
I'm running my new chassis and 10mil on asphalt this year. Rico, sorry I hadn't gotten back to you about the tires, I went out to the shed and one of them had a puncture in it, apparently when I tossed them in there they found a sharp object

I always had a blast on the blacktop back in the day. IMO it was much more fun than the sand/ dirt is. Just as Bigboy says, there is no competition. No fun racing raptors and stock banshees!!! I always got a kick out of the guys with huge dollar cars stop what they are doing to watch us fast drag bikes run. Then back in the pits people always huddled around asking a million questions, because they have never seen anything like that before. I would like to play on the asphault again.....maybe this time on a snowmobile!!!!!!
