wacko2000
I need to have something done to my cylinders, they are starting to peel Will powdercoating them hold up, will it last, is it going to chip.. Give me some info guys, some words of wisdom, on what to do with them Is there something better rather than powdercoating them? I like the black, sleeper look.. I want a flat black though, nothing to shinny.. I dont mind painting them myself, if some1 knows some good paint to use.. KaosBanshee44
You don't have a shop around you that does powdercoat? They have a gloss and a flat black they can powdercoat on them. Be alot better than painting them. Plus powdercoat is stronger.
colby72olds
I dropped mine off at the powder coater Wednesday, he told me that his powder is good up to 250 degrees.
NitroTate
I've done plenty of motors etc. they will definitely hold up with PC. They'll handle more than 250 most likely and if you're really worried about it you could go with high temp PC and be good up to about 1500 deg. inthemail
i was just wondering the same myself....... FD alky and methanol runs cooler correct?
bigboybanshee
The 4mil cubs I bought were PC'd gloss black, they were previously ran on gas, and they looked flawless when I got them. You couldn't tell they'd been run at all. PC will hold up to the heat, and it definitely lasts longer than paint
inthemail
i figured, i mean PC bakes at 400 degrees so what will a cylinder do to it? PAINT goes to shit in heat cause you dont heat cure it..... now make PC surfaces hotter thn 400 and most of it will probley fall apart, then you gotta get high eat pc
wacko2000
Thanks guys, I havent decided what to do yet, I was just at the part store and they have engine paint tat you have to cure for 60 min... You have to idle the bike 3 times for like 20 minutes, something like that...Its supposed to be really good, its for headers and shit, But if the pc will hold up, maybe Ill do that,,
Michael Jackson
is there any problems with PC holding heat IN?
NitroTate
is there any problems with PC holding heat IN? No, it's not an issue. Even if it does it's not significant enough to make a difference. I've coated air-cooled and liquid cooled motors and not had any problems at all. sheerider1026
i have done many cylinders, cases, and did a complete 400ex motor, no problems at all, and you know how hot those air cooled 4 strokers can get!!! if you decide to powdercoat them joey, you will never have to mess with them again..
