dajogejr
i think i understand what your saying....so with my mods, what gearing do you think i should run and/or what gearing do you think would be borderline to much for my bike to EFFECTIVELY pull??? Aha...well allow me to retort... (Classic Pulp Fiction line, sorry...had to...LOL) What kind of terrain do you ride on, how much do you weigh, how often to you actually get to ride your shee @ WOT...what kind of racing do you do? Your bike might pull 90 MPH gearing. But if you ride trails, you're not doing 90 MPH through trees. Your bike might also pull 90MPH gearing if you weigh 120 lbs. Probably not so effectively if you weight 250...
qboronyrican
i ride trails(woods) and mx track once and a while but the trails i ride has many long straight aways( some fields and some paved roads in between trails) that we go head to head on and i weight in at about 175-180....was thinking if i went up in gearing for more top end i was going to go with a shorter swingarm for the traction and the get up and go in the trails but for now i still got the stock swinger .......so what do you think??? Are you having a problem or are you just looking for a change? The reason I ask is because the stock gearing is a good all around setup. Its my opinion Yamaha R&D'd the gearing to be good all around. Of course it was setup for a 40hp stock engine but its still very effective on 50+ hp engines too. IMO Id stick with stock unless you are looking for a specific change in the way your bike runs. ie... You need a little more bottom or topend. If you ride trails mostly or drag race for short distances Id stick with stock. I dont think you would need more topend than 70-80 mph through the trails. LOL If anything some more low end. Banshees are all about gearing.
dajogejr
Depending on how gold your port is.... 15/43 and be done with it for trails. 14/43 for MX. You don't need top end for MX, what you need is power right now and out of corners....that's why 4 pokes do so well. Well, that and their suspension is better. If you're using 21 inch tires for MX, that's another problem. You want 18s....

Otherwise i would do a 15 on the front and stock on the rear. i wouldnt bother with a shorter swingarm. i assume there are at least a few hillclimbs where you ride, and it doesnt sound like you are that dedicated to mx. scuba147
I did two runs on at drag strip 3 years ago--82.9mph and 84.2mph--both were 14... second runs-1st time ever on a track. Single carb and all the bolt ons 15/41 gearing and 20 inch nobbies. Though I was gonna blow the shee up the second time. I;m with everyone else-its how fast you can get there that means anything
