Fuel Help

Hey Everyone. I need some help. I recently picked up a banshee, my first although have ridden them before. I need some of you guys to answer some questions for me. I'll post the bike and what i know below, then my questions.

2001 banshee. Toomey T5s, Toomey high capacity radiator, v-force3 reeds , Rickey stator adjustable timing plate, D&D split high comp heads, Vito's custom needles, jets. Stock bore and stroke, K&N pods.

The guy runs VP C12 Racing fuel mixed w/golden spectro 50:1. He doesn't remember the size of the head(cc) and is running 300 main jets, said it's set up for 65/70degrees. He also has the timing at +5 or +7 couldn't remember which.

My question is it necessary to run race fuel with this setup? If it is what would need to be changed for me to go back to pump gas? I plan on taking the pods off and going back to the air box setup for the time being because of the conditions i ride in, however when it comes to jetting i'm at a loss here. I'm from NJ so we are either riding a smidge above sea level or in various areas of PA. Would the jetting come into play as well? The bike is tuned perfectly, runs real strong and has a TON of power, but i'd still like to revert back to pump gas. I think $10 a gallon is a bit much for gas.

Any info would be great! Thanks a bunch guys.

Joe,

Welcome to the HQ and congrats on the new bike. You will have to check your compression to determine what your fuel requirements are. Is the bike ported? To run premium pump gas you will have to get your static compression below 150 psi, and may want to back your timing off to around +4. Do the heads use interchangeable domes?? If they do, assuming you have stock porting you will need to run 21 or 22cc domes(21 at sea level 22 at 1000').

joe welcome and good buy

as stated above you need 150 or less then compression to run pump 91-93 premium octane

and to change the compression you can put the advanced timing plate to +4 AND change the domes out of the cool head, although i have not read or heard about D&D heads you need to find out who makes different size domes for it

Thanks guys for the info! Very much appreciated.

One last question. I'm still trying to learn everything i can about jetting and what not. The guy i picked the bike up from set it was jetted for around 65/70degrees. How do you jet a bike for a certain temperature? Is this possible? Now the question that goes along with that, if It IS possible to jet for temperature and it's set for 65/70degrees if the bike is used in colder or warmer weather can you do harm to it?

Thanks again. Definitely loving being a new Banshee owner :)

Im currently running 21cc domes, Im at sea level, I have 155psi in each cylnder, +4 timing and I run 93 and shee runs awesome....Check your compression, as said above, as long as you are under 160 you are okay to run 93...

Where in Nj are you from Joe, and where are you going to be riding...I live in NY, staten island and ride NJ and PA also..

Thanks for the reply. I'm central jersey, know where Sandy Hook is? Middletown area? I used to ride in NJ but cops suk here, so we go out to PA. I already had a quad just added the Shee to the family. Where can you go riding in Staten Island? That's news to me...curious though.

Did you see my other post about the jetting? Have any insights on that? I see you post a lot and you always seem to know your stuff so if you have any insight on the jetting questions i had that would be great! Thanks man.
