Okay so I picked up a 2003 banshee with full fmf sst exhaust, v force 3 cages, carbon fiber reeds, larger than stock carbs(not too sure on the size, cuz i am the 3rd owner), and a bud light graphics kit for 2000 bucks. I have a bit of a problem and im kind of new to banshees and all. The thing is an absolute b**** to start with the kick starter and most of the times it wont start. but it will start up if i drift start it. It will shut off on me if i dont keep the revs up. it wont idle either..but it runs great on top end. if i can get the thing bump started and feather the gas untill it revs up and keep the revs up and take off it absolutely flys. but if im coming down the road and let off the gas and pull in the clutch it will die. what seems to be the problem? all help is greatly appreciated. and i love my new banshee lol i couldnt be more happy buyin something that doesnt run right than i am now lol Thanks Guys.

How much compression does it have?

I would venture to say soak the carbs to get all the venturies clean. Many people use guitar string to clean the tight spots. Either the pilot circuit is cloged and or the choke is not working. OR your low on compression. Get a compression tester and check her out.

okay well. took the carbs apart. 260 mains 27.5 pilots, aint looked at the needles. im right around 3000ft. also, after the bike is warmed up it will start with the kickstarter as long as i give it some gas but when its cold it wont. i have to keep the revs up all the time or it will die.

Your jetting sounds pretty close, if your carbs look good then you need to check your compression. At that elevation with the stock head you should have around 110 to 120 psi (both cylinders need to be the same within 2 or 3 psi) make sure to hold the throttle wide open while you kick it.

Ahh i noticed something just now as i was lookin at an illustration in a pdf i found of how to install a dynojet jet kit in a banshee. Do stock banshee carbs have main jet cups? I assume so since it states in the illustration "Main jet cup must be re-installed." by main jet cup it means the plastic piece the surrounds the main jet. whats up with that? could this be my problem?

Probably not, I think those are just there to keep the fuel from sloshing as much.

I had the same problem with my '89 it was a pain and I always looked stupid getting push started befor i raced the hill. I took it to the guys at CPI and they found that i was loosing compression. top end rebuild and some major rejetting got the trick done.
