I would like to meet up with someone from the site if you drag there? Looking to learn what is needed to be a competitor in Drag atv World..

You have to be fast

Brad or Butch said they were going to try some new tracks this season. Would this be one of them guys? They are out of PA.

yeah kev that will be one that we will be triing out.the only bad part about that track is that it is bracket racing, but i am up for triing it.

NO offense, but I'm all for bracket racing...or even index racing...as long as the classes are structured right.

A 4 second bike shouldn't have to run a 6 second utility quad... and a bike with gears shouldn't have to run a CV type bike (snomobile clutch or auto tranny with no shifting)

Here's the main reason why...

I'm 250 lbs. Yeah, I could cut weight, diet...etc. But on my frame...I could get no lighter than 200 lbs, or I'd look like an Ethiopian on crack.

I could set up one bad ass bike, have the motor tuned, chassis tuned, gearing, air pressure, etc.

The I could get beat heads up by a lesser bike with a 110 pound jockey on it.

In my opinion, bracket racing lets guys who build their own bikes ride their own bikes....jockeys are for horse racing...

Now...I'm all for going to a big event and watching a low 3 second bike tear up the track, it is truly impressive to watch. 99% chance that jockey just showed up to race, didn't work on the bike...didn't PAY for the bike....etc.

I know there are cc limits and what not... for heads up racing. That simply doesn't take into account my example earlier...

I'm 6 foot, I was 110 lbs and in great shape in 6th grade....

I like running the pro index class.. Gave you a lil more heads up type action..

And I know what you mean about running them utiliity quads.. Got my ass handed to me by a grizzly that left the line 4 seconds before I did...

yeah, I got knocked out once by a snowmobile...on sand. Yeah, not a snowmobile motor'd quad...but a snowmobile...

In 300ft and sand, I don't think you see as much "sand bagging"--no pun intended--as you do on a quarter mile with cars. Things happen much faster....and there are alot more variables.

The last race of the year, the gambler race...I think I ran a 4.36 to my 4.35 dial in, Ben ran a 4.3 something to his 4.25 dial in, and we both scratched our heads at the end until we pulled back in the pits to find out the winner.

We were both just all smiles at the end, didn't matter who won....it was that close at the end....and all the way down the track. It's not the same as racing a 6 second quad and a 4 second bike.

I think brackets should be arranged by either .5 or .75 second intervals....it makes for much better "heads up" style/feel of racing.

00...racing is racing, I go to have fun, I'll never get rich or famous from it. But narrowing down the times/dial in...gives it a better heads up feel even though you're racing yourself and the clock.

JT, Shayne, my bike and most of the guys we ride with the times are all so close....it pretty much always feels like a heads up race. But a lot of the guys are building BIG bikes this year, and will be in the 3's easily....it's just a weird feeling having a 3.8 bike smoke by you at the end!

You'd be amazed. There were a lot of sandbaggers at the track I ran at in Mississippi, and they'd usually go pretty far in the rounds, but hardly ever win the whole night. You could hear them letting out early, blipping the throttle to the finish.

In all fairness though, if I am bracket racing and my opponent is obviously not catching me, I'll let out and coast across the line...less chance to break out. If the race is close, I'll stay in it the whole way, but if I have more than 3 bikes on you, I'm not going to go all out if I don't have to...that's for the pro tree/heads up classes

In regards to the topic, I've heard several good things about this track. There are a lot of fast bikes and several members of planet sand race there. It seems like a very nice place to race!

Good point... I only let out one time last year, because the guy next to me f'd up his start...and he was WAY behind, and I didn't want to break out. I was supposed to have a bye run cause the guy I was supposed to race broke, but...the organizer wanted to run again and "sub" for him. I asked him if I won no matter what, even if I red lighted or broke out...he said NO...so, I just had to put it to him. After wards, he did say I would've taken the win no matter what, I think he was trying get in my head...LOL.

If you grouped the dial in times to .5 second pairings, it would be fun to the finish IMO....

Another thing...we write our dial in times on our number plates. If we did away with that, it would eliminate some of the people playing the guessing game/sand bagging as well. It would be more work for the organizers...but not much!

I was gonna post the same...I know several guys that sandbag and the only difference is starting in 1st or 2nd at the line and that will put them in the faster or slower brackets.
