Slasher99
I'm looking to purchase my first Banshee. I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Looking for some input on what others on the forum would do? There are a few options locally at the moment. Options are.... Stock 2005 Banshee SE white with Red Frame that is in great condition for $4200 Canadian or 2000 Banshee White/Red with silver frame in good condition as well with the following addons for $3100: ITP offset rims, boost bottle, FMF SST pipes and silencers, aero taper bars, twist throtle, AC dirt screen bumper and AC pro peg nerf bars. new maxxis all trax tires. The motor was also rebuilt 2 seasons ago. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Shaun
rubberneck
I'd do a compression test on both and ride em both. If they both have good compression indicating that the motors are in decent shape, and they both ride/shift pretty good, I personally would buy the older one with the mods. It has some decent stuff on there and would cost you a good deal to add to the stock one. Edited February 2, 2008 by rubberneck
MarineNYC
Get the older one. It has a good amount of mods.
TexasBansheeMan
There is an 1,100 dollar diff in the 2 quads. You will have to spend that to but the mads of the 2000 bike. IMO it would be cheaper to rebuild a topend than buy all the mods, so buy the 2000 and bang the hell outa her!!!!
350BANSHEE350
hey. slasher i live in calgary market is expensive for used stuff down here isnt it well i would do what has been mentioned get a good comression tester and test both machines (should be around 110 psi for our sea level) ride them both look at both plugs look at how clean they are rust etc riding areas in alberta can be ruff so stand the machine up on the grab bar 9put a towel down though so you dont scratch the grab bar) and make sure nothing is bent if both machines are okay then go with the 2000 because mods arnt cheap here partscanada.com charges about 790$ for fmf pipes or if you online order them shipping is big bucks good luck btw maybe wait for a little things seem to be cheaper when the snow is gone and you dont want to rush when it comes to buying a used shee

Slasher99
Hey great input so far guys... Thx So for a compression test I'm a assuming a stantard car compression tester would work. Put it in the spark plug hole and kick it over a few times? Would that be correct? Shaun
baddsheee
Modded one for a cheaper price. Kick it over until the needle doesn't rise any higher. Maker sure its not on run and hold the throttle open. You want both cylinders to be pretty close to each other. I would say within 10% of the highest reading would be ok. 2004LEBanshee
Id get the stocker. Who knows how bored it is. Plus I wouldnt doubt it was road hard. Id rather have a bike closer to virgin then one with supprises. good luck
.
Get the one with the mods, for the price difference you could completely rebuild the engine and still be way ahead of the game. Compression test is a good way to check how the engine looks on the inside, its a 2000, and has 2 seasons on the top end. It's probably got decent bore left unless the engine got really hurt when it went the first time. You could probably ask what bore its on and the owner would know. Grab the tops of the front tires and pull on them to check the wheel bearings and bushing play in the aarms. Stand on it and rock side to side on the pegs and look for play in the rear axle bearings. Make sure lights work, feel for clutch slipping coming up through rpm band. Look at how the sprocket teeth look, and just overall condition of the shee. You can usually tell within a glance if a quad was taken care of or not. all in all, even if stuff is wrong with the 2000, go with that, and negotiate on price if you find stuff that needs to be fixed. With the mods, even if they arent what you are looking for to have, you can sell them for a lot more than what you could sell a stock piece for. peterlocal22
If the newer one is in better shape which it sounds to be i would grab the newer one but try and get the guy selling it to go down on his price. Shoot for $3500 and tell him about the other bike. Make him relize that your serious but if you cant get it down to a reasonable price your going to buy the other bike. The nice thing about the 2005 is it has not been tampered with yet. Also you can now modify it how you want to not how someone else wanted to. the 2005 sounds basically brand new. grab it.
