Cleaning Pipes

Shearer chrome looks crappy enough as it is, but now i've got oil on them from a bad seal (Stock hangers finally gave way, got new chrome cascade ones coming). So the sealant gave way from all the turning on the flanges. I decided to pull them off and do some maint. polishing on the motor and theres no way I cant afford new chrome at this point so whats going to get that oil off my pipes? I refrained from using a steel brush cause it would hurt me too much...

when i burn my riding pants onto the head pipes, i take them to my bench buffer and use a soft wheel and come chrome rouge. I dont know what i would do if i didnt have that. A buddy of mine used the super-fine steel wool, but polishing it leaves it flawless

Ya i thought about it but oil would ruin the wheel, just wantin to know the best way... Never really had to do this but with shearers you really need a seal or your pipes are messed.

I would go get 0000 steel wool insead of a sos pad. The 0000 is super fine so it doenst leave marks. I dip the pad in some acetone to help disolve the oil. Then give it a little polsh. I usually wipe the pipes down with acetone after I am done so it makes my cascade cpi's streek and finger print.

i used a razor blade to scrape my melted pants off on my fmfs. just make sure you hold it almost parallel to the surface so it doesnt dig in and scratch.

i need to do them again, i was doing burnouts just wearing jeans and made a mess on the pipes again, so i will try the sos pad this time
