stroker question

You have two options:

1) Run a spacer plate in between your case and the cylinders. This will allow you to run the cool head and domes without any modification to them. This is the cheaper way out but since you now have to run a spacer plate and two gaskets instead of just one gasket, there is more of a chance of something failing and your motor developing an air leak.

or the better but more expensive option:

2) Have your cylinders ported for the stroker crank and run domes that have been machined for clearance. You won't have to run the spacer plate then. You don't really want to run the machined domes without the port work because your port timings will be off.

Jeff at F.A.S.T. Racing sells the cut domes and can do the porting if you decide to take that route.

running 2 gaskets instead of 1 really isnt that bad. the main problem is you get fucked up port timings.

in order to properly run a 4 mill crank or any stroker crank you NEED to get youre cylinders ported. there is no such thing as a spacer plate that can correct youre port timings and bring them back to stock. the spacer plate can only correct youre piston and deck clearence. which is only havf of the problem. just because you can get the crank and pistons to fit does not mean everything is setup properly.

if you ran with no spacer plate and no porting the exhaust would be at what 195 degrees? thats pretty wild if that is true. i am not too good at mota though so im probably wrong.

with 2mm plate no porting, the exhaust port timing would drop a bunch. 185 degrees. probably make a nice midrange motor but have no topend. this assumes i am working with mota correctly.

so basically, with a spacer plate you have poor port timings. without it you still get poor port timings. swolution? you need to port the motor when adding a stroker crank. theres no way around it.

i recently blew out crankshaft, so i purchased a new hot rods stroker crank. if i buy a cool head, will i have to mill it out to compensate for the longer stroke? thanks.

Yea get a cool head from noss machine. He has domes that are made for the 4 mill stroker crank. Is the crank a long rod or stock length conecting rod? If it is a long rod crank you will need 795 series pistons too.

thanks for the responses. i purchased the have the 4 mm stroker, along with the stroker pistons made by hot rods. i also got a spacer plate that goes between the head and the cylinder. after looking over some of these forums i kinda want to return this plate and get the cool head. if i purchase a noss cool head and get the stroker domes, will i still have to check the squish and compression? and if the compression is off, will i have to end up buying another set of domes? please help, i am itching to go back to glamis before the season ends, thanks.

i really want the cool head option. i plan on buying the noss head with stroker domes. will i have to machine anything off the cool head itself? do stroker domes come in different sizes? i only want to run 91 octane pump gas, thanks?

i guess i will just get the jugs ported then. can i still use my stock carbs and reeds? i want to buy some new air filters, what do you think about the single stage foam filters made by UNI? they go for about 14 bucks each at rockymountainatv.com. i pretty much ride at glamis, and glamis only. for me it is sand or nothing, thanks in advance.

I actually just reassembled my new spacer plate +4mm stroker motor, haven't fired it up yet though. I do agree with you on the only way to get correct port timings is having port work done. I originally picked up the 2mm shaved domes from Jeff but after posting here and talking to Jeff again, we decided that it would be better to run the spacer plate and normal domes if I wasn't porting it since the piston will be where it is supposed to be at the top of the stroke. Next year I'll probably get it ported and ditch the spacer plate. Just my experience with this whole stroker motor deal.

Go with the noss head. You wont have to do any modds to the head as long as you get some stroker domes. Call and talk to Dave the owner of noss machine. Tell him your building a 4 mill stroker, what altitude your at, and what kind of fuel you want to run, and he will make a set of domes for you. He has been making cool heads for a while and knows what he is doing. Banshee HQ members get 10% off too.

You can run your stock carbs, reeds, and intakes with the 4 mill. It shouldnt be aprobem.

I would deffinatly get it ported while you have it appart. That will really bring your banshee to life. You migt aslo tell dave noss what type of port job you plan on getting. That has an effect on compression as well.

thanks for the good news. this mod/repair is getting real expensive real quick. how do i get in contact with dave from noss machine. will i need to rejet my carbs? i have t6s and k&n pods, but i plan on getting some uni clamp ons from rockymountain. the k&n s had a problems of falling off from time to time, thanks.

Yea you will need to rejet the carbs. I dont know how the T6's will do with the stroker. Some people will tell you that the 6's are not as good as the T5's. I wouldnt let that stop you from doing the 4 mill. Later on down the road you can always try a different pipe.

I am running his Race Gas 4 mill domes in my cool head. Compression is right on at 185 PSI.

i checked out the hot rods pistons i have. they don t say anything on them but 1.5 and an arrow pointing towards the exhaust port. the box says they are for hot rods crank #4111 and the displacement is 391cc.
