Reeds

i dont know enough about reeds to answer that. what i do know i learn from watching other people, espically the ones who are most concerned with power (drag racers). it has been said the best way to learn is from watching other people and learn from their mistakes.

i am running stock reeds and stock cages. when i eventually need new reeds i will probably go with boyesen replacement petals and i might port my stock cages at the same time. but i have seen from people who port cages that it is almost an art form. you are almost guaranteed to wreck the first few sets of stock cages you port youreself. so im not so sure what to do. thankfully mt stock reeds are fine for now so ill keep researching the subject and by the time i actually NEED reeds, ill probably know what to do. i know there are people out there who port stock cages, and for rather cheap i might add. its just hard to find them.

I think what alot of the drag guys have found is ithat past a certain point, you are not going to get much more out of a reed cage design, but the reeds themselves make a big difference. However, there is a consensus on which reed is best, I know guys using anything from FMF reeds all the way to the other end of the spectrum where guys are having their own two-off custom reeds sets made. :geek:

If i was to go out and purchase a set of either (vf3's or boyesen) which would you prefer/buy?

I would like to know also, i was thinking of buying some vitos replacement reeds. But then again, for 50 bucks, im 1/4 of the way to vf3's and will probably buy them later on anyway...

Are there any replacement reeds that are comparable to vf3's or boyesen?

I'd take the VF3 over the boyesen RAD valve..They're about the same in price. But on stock to lightly ported motors I like Boyesen Pro Series carbon reeds. I dont think the samller engines will benifit from the V-Force like the Bigger motors but it wont hinder performance on the smaller engines either. Again this is just my opinion. Go with what you can afford/ want to spend. I've never used the Vito's reeds.. but any reed is a upgrade over stock.

Boyesen makes 2 different RAD Valves with 2 different part numbers for 2 different applications.

Part #RAD-36A is for more or less stockish motors.

Part #RAD-36M

This RAD Valve is recommended for modified Banshee engines.

If I were buying reeds, I'd buy a set of the Boyesen Power Reeds. $57.00 shipped at:

If I were buying reed cages, I'd roll with the V Force 3s. $194.00 shipped at:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Bans...7QQcmdZViewItem

Personally, I've asked a couple of times if there is a power difference between the reeds and VF3s, and most say that there is no difference on mid-top, but it is more responsive on the low-mid. $135.00 difference in price, but who knows if it's worth it.

I have the Power Reeds and I'm usually to the top of the hill first more than not!!

But then again...I don't think I've raced against any of you BansheeHQers!! :whistling:

Hope this helps,
