metalace2001 Posted January 15, 2008 Report Share Posted January 15, 2008 I need to rebuild my 01 shee top end I have about $350 to spend on parts and I need to know the best route to take, the reason for my rebuild is that my friend has a 05 440ex with hot cam, heavy duty timing chain, and a full exhaust, we draged and i lost every time and I didnt think thats the way it was supposed to be. sheerider1026 Posted January 17, 2008 Report Share Posted January 17, 2008 if it is low on compression doing a fresh bore job will do lots of justice, also porting it will add some power, i ported mine myself and it is very quick, i wouldn't get beat by a 440ex at all. what else is done to it?? oh yeah, passion racing does a topend job(bore,hone,pistons,rings,gaskets,orings) for like 245.00.. thats a great deal, and jim is an excellent builder. if u can afford it his portwork kicks ass also, look up wacko on here, he just had a motor built by jim. I'm still waiting on a flywheel so I have not had a chance to run it yet. To install a standerd hot rods +4 stroke + 5 rod, you will have to have a stroker crank, spacer to go under the cylinders, special pistons with the wrist pin moved up 5mm(wiseco 795), gasket set, yamabond/hondabond to seal the case back up, about 5 cans of carb cleaner to clean all the motor parts, it's best to also have the cylinders bored. as far as tools, all you need is a socket set, screwdrivers, a flywheel puller, inch lbs torque wrench. If you get rid of the spacer plate and get the porting the 4mm deserve without the spacer plate, its a whole differant story and then the stroker run with full potential. Swaie Posted January 18, 2008 Report Share Posted January 18, 2008 Man, you can do it with out getting a stroker. I killed 440's with my banshee with horrible portwork.
