Carbon Fiber Fenders?

Recommended Posts

I found a relatively good article....

http://www.oppracing.com/opp_pages.php?page=carbon_fiber_101

That's awesome! The article covers most of the info that I would have put together to give to you guys if had the time..........

As a small caveat, polyester or vinyl ester resin can be used with CF, but the CF needs to be sized (technical term meaning: glass coated) for it. That type of CF is more expensive and less than readily available. :geek:

I tell you guys what... I'm more than just alittle serious about doing this! I know some people have a bad opinion of me, but I'm sure I can turn a first class product out with the right materials.

that looks nice and a great articale. i would love to have a fullbore front all carbon fiber that would be sick. but ya that would be realy price for my pocket.

If your looking for a set of carbon full bores. I could do it for less than the originals. Probably around $175-200 depending on how much material is needed.(full or race style) I just need to pull molds from these plastics so I can replicate them.

I almost have enough to get started on mine. i'll be posting some pics here in a week or 2 with the process I'll be using. If you like the finished product I will make more than one set for sale to you guys here on the HQ.

I've found almost every color you can imagine... even pink for you ladies. (no joke)

Would this interest anyone? You can wait to see what they will look like before replying to that....

so far i have raptor 660 plastics and yfz450 plastics... as well as my OEM banshee plastics. These will be for starters

I'm excited!

carbon fiber for atv is an interesting idea. from a weight perspective, you wont lose much. the stock plastics dont weigh much. espically after you race cut them. if these carbon fiber plastics weighed nothing at all (as light as air) you would only save a few pounds. since they dont weigh nothing, the gains are less than that. i dont know how much they actually weigh though so i used an extreme axample so get me point across.

is the high cost worth it for such little gains? well from a racing perspective, no. you would be better off using that money on engine or suspension mods. and carbon fiber has the same problem that fiberglass has, it cracks when under stress. i have a street bike with carbon fiber front fairing. that thing cracks so easily its rediculous.

from a bling factor, sure carbon fiber is worth it. nothing blings more than carbon fiber and chrome. so if all you want them for is the bling factor, then yes they are worth it. want them to reduce weight? not worth it. just take a big shit right before the race and theres youre few pounds of weight reduction.

this is cool looking, a little pricey though. also for those of you wanting carbon look rad shrouds, there are probbaly others, but my o3 lm edition comes with it and the 06 lm edition does too. the one on the 03 is a lighter color than the 06, which is almost black.

Read the article I posted...poly or epoxy? I'm willing ot bet you have a poly fairing. I'm looking for flexable yet durable. But that's also why I'm looking into carbon/kevlar.... not just carbon or carbon/fiberglass. it should work out a bit better for just that reason.

:yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: :yelrotflmao: YUP!

Yeah i'm not looking for the weight savings..... just the awesome 3D look of the weave. with the colored stuff it all depends on the angle your standing at. In the sun it's better than sex man! :woot: And with all the curves of the banshee (or any other quad for that matter) it will be pure lust for me  But we'll have to see when I get the materials. plenty more OT for me this week, so i should have the coin soon enough.

yeah but it's still just plastic....2D.... no depth. Nothing like the real thing. Plus for the money your going to pay for plastic, you might as well just go all the way on the real thing. Like I was saying about the fullbores.... They cost soooo much money, I can do the same fullbore look for 2/3 the price. That's why I'm going this route rather than spending the coin on those. I'm always looking for a better way to stretch my dollar, even if it takes a bit longer or it's a bit harder to do. I guess that's just the way I am..... always looking for the longest shortcut...LOL
