When to replace plugs?

Looking thru all the post on this, it seem some ar running their plugs for months and some for years! I have never fouled a plug during riding, only sometime starting when really cold ouside.. I run the B8E S ngk and have never had a problem with them.. So my question is, what it the life expectancy of plugs?? People posted that they fouled plugs after a month and have had to replace them??! Correct me if I am wrong but isnt a fouled plug just a cylnder with too much liquid gas in it too ignite?? Does the plug really have to be replaced once fouled?? I have had mine for 8 years now... any performance gain by replacing them?

8 years? post them up...I wanna see 'em.

They're 2 bucks a pop, retire those plugs....they've earned it.

If the bike is maintained and jetted correctly there's no reason they can't last a few seasons.

However....

For 2.00 a pop, I like cheap insurance that I have fresh plugs, and I can keep a constant eye on them to tell me what my motor is doing.

lol i chuckled when i read this....

when a plug fouls its not the end of its life, you can clean it and reuse it but for 2 dollars theres no reason. if mine havent fouled out i normally replace them every 3 -6 months.

some might say you will gain power but if it is true it isnt enough that your going to feel it.

edit: that is assuming they havent been used for 8 years lol

if you are using 8 year old plugs then youre jetting is probably prety good. you are NOT going to wear out a plug in a banshee by using it too much. alot of cars go 20-30 even 60 thousand miles on cheap $2 plugs with no problems. the banshee isnt going to wear out its plugs. the only probloem you can run into is fouling.

its the people who foul plugs once in a while who need new ones because they run so pig ass rich. well for regular pump gas anyways. if youre motor is jetted right, you should never foul plugs on pump gas under any conditions.

i have my plugs in for almost 2 years now. still runs like the day i bought the bike new off the showrtoom floor. infact my plugs are the original plugs that came with my bike new from the yamaha dealer. why blow $4 on new ones? that may sound cheap but id rather use that $4 to buy a gallon of gas and mix it with some oil.

yea i mean like stated if the motor is tuned perfectly or very close it will not wear on parts as much and at 2 bucks and eight years well thats 50 cents a year you saved....!!!! get some replacements, a picture frame or a rotating stand and worship them puppies...they did well and had a long tour!

HA HA.. sounds like alot but I havent been able to ride it as much as I want.. in the past it has been maybe 7-8 times a year but once I got it out here from jersey I have gone about 6-7 times sooo... they havent seen as much action as some of your machines.. Just the fact that people take the time to pull their plugs and then replace them with new ones when they foul sounds strange to me.. and no I have not always had the jetting right, definately a learning curve... ill post a pic or two of them... they still look sexy to me!! LOL

I have been brought up by the saying "If it aint broke, don't fix it" so I doubt I would replace my plugs on my banshee for a couple of years if it is running correct. My dad had a 1995 701cc Yamaha jetski that we sold last year, and I know for a fact that it is still on the same stock plugs right now, and runs the same as when he bought it.
