theshee Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I personally dont like macs, they are just different to use if you are use to a PC. You can still get windows XP on the new computers, after the Vista problmes they are still offering XP. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 What exactly do you plan on using it for ...day to day wes? (if it's making videos of you and your bud there on the "casting couch"...a MAC is the way to go...lol) J/K... Been a PC user and Windows Administrator for a long time, I've wanted to get one of those mini macs for a few hundred bucks to learn on one, just haven't gotten around to it. They do pictures and video editing better than a PC, period. If you just want to screw around on the net, burn a few CDs, download some porn (just a wild guess on that last one...) get an XP laptop, they still can be found.... Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 MAC's are without a doubt the way to go for any kind of editing. reguardless if its audio, video, pictures what ever they are the computer for the job. For general use like games and internet and papers and what not pc. although MAC's are becoming the master of the computer world they just are not as ez to use if you dont understand computers very well Quote

Although...for the little bit of time I have on a MAC, I was able to navigate around pretty easily. One thing I found, Wes....which might keep you from pulling your hair out, is if you connect one to a Linksys (and possibly other wireless access points/routers) if you have it locked down secure (WEP, or other wireless encryption) you have to enter a $ sign before you enter the WEP key code... Found that out the hard way.... Quote
Bansh-eman Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 True that. Although...for the little bit of time I have on a MAC, I was able to navigate around pretty easily. they are trying to make it similar to windows without worrying about lawsuits. They know that people dont want to try to relearn to navigate a new program so they have gotten much better about this on the new soft ware then the old versions. Before they did not untilize the mouse much. Many of the key functions where controlled off the keybaord. I think you will see the MAC take over the market in the next 10 years. Quote
dajogejr Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Greg...what are you smoking...? Linux and MAC combined won't take over the market share in 20 years, let alone 10....promise.... My biggest thing is I understand the underpinnings of Windows, MAC I have no clue.... Quote

My biggest thing is I understand the underpinnings of Windows, MAC I have no clue.... no no no not the networking market or system market, the home user. mom and pop going to best buy and geting a computer for the family and all that... watch you'll see. 10 years and MACs will be EVERYWHERE Quote
dajogejr Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I know exactly what you meant...and I respectfully disagree... Mom and Pops, as well as kids...use Windows at school and work. They'll continue to use them at home, too...the type of break MS can afford to give schools, offices, etc, MAC will never be able to compete with that or they'd lose their ass. MAC will never break into the business work force, there's simply not enough server infrastructure development for them. IMO, Linux makes a nice PC OS, but....they don't have the backing...either. Never gonna happen buddy....not until after we're both gone and dead, anyways.... Quote

No one had a apple for personal use just a few years ago, now tons of users have ditched pc and went to mac. They bundle package everything that users want/need rather then putting a bunch of shit you dont use and charge you for the things you want. the only thing that will get in thier way is they have broadened thier market sooooo much that they havent put all thier insite into the computer industry. they broke into phones and mp3 players and everything else that deals with technology. but you will see, they will take over soon enough Edited January 3, 2008 by Bansh-eman Quote
wacko2000 Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 I have always used a PC... I was looking into buying a laptop and my cousin talked my into the MAC... I love it..Do I completly kno how to use it? no Do I kno about all the editing you are talkin about? no I use it for you basic home searchin shit.... Bansh-eman Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 for just basic internet use and all that id get a pc. wether its a laptop or a tower, you can do everything you need to do and have alot more at your disposal if needed at much less then a mac. If you planned on using it for more then you are doing id say buy the mac but it would be wasting money in your case and you would have to relearn a new OS. plus all the prigrams you already have would more then likey not work Quote
dajogejr Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Honestly Wes...I say go for it... I've got a 5 year old PC, it's strong...but even with a pair of Raptor hard drives in RAID 0 (10K RPM drives instead of the normal 7200, RAID 0 is the fastest data writing/reading combo you can do) it's still not impressive when encoding and creating video... In short, even though my PC is strong, I'm looking to get a cheap MAC to edit basically drag race video footage. I can spend 500 to 700 upgrading my PC (Video card, motherboard, processor and RAM) or I can spend 400 or so, get a Mini-Mac, and learn...do video better, and probably be better off. I say go for it...and let us know what you do/what you think of a MAC. It's not like you'd be throwing your old PC away...right? Quote
