Cory9584
I got a 4mm stroker crank and a 20cc stroker cool head. I should be getting my cylinders back at the end of the week. I got the bored to 64.5 and retimed for the 4mm stroker crank. I also have an fmf exhaust and silencers. Im not getting any port work done this time but what should i expect from this setup? Should i be able to beat 450rs? Also the bike has reed spacers, do they make any diffence? Should i keep using them? also are my pipes good for a stroker motor? 5150banshee
i think the pipes should be okay but i would go with 18cc and run race gas and what kind of spacers r u talking about not the base plate spacer for the crank right but the reed spacers.cause in past experiance that base plate has taken power from the motor. Michael Jackson
dont nreally know anything about them, but im gona have to say, no, get rid of the FMF's they are probably holding you back reed spacers are normally used so the bowls on larger carbs will clear the clutch arm on the case and if you lose to a 450r on that thing, sell it, and get a 300 ex
Cory9584
reed spacers, Im going to use custom domes and the ports are retimed so i dont need a cylinder spacer
locogato11283
pipes will be holding you back. porting is what will really increase performance. im not sure youre gonna notice much more with this setup except for a little more bottom end. Cory9584
I guess i should see if i can afford some porting then since im not in too big a rush anyway.
Cory9584
what would be good pipes for a stroker motor?
dajogejr
If the port timing was matched for the 4 mil crank, I'm sure the porting has probably been cleaned up a little as well. To be honest, the pipes are holding you back a bit....some better porting and maybe 28 to 32mm carbs will help as well. What about timing, did you buy a plate and advance that, too??? 91banshee
I think a lot of people are skiping portwork and getting a 4 mill stoker , I would have just saved up an gotten the cylinders ported and matched for the 4 mil crank a (ported) 370 is a very powerfull motor with correct setup and other complementing mods , a ported 350 will spank and non ported 370 long rod . .you if you still have the cylinders atthe builder i would think about getting them ported while there .if not? then when you get it back together bolt on some good pipes t-5s cpis or shearers , like dave said carbs will help and a timming plate to take advantage if you wana run high compression and race fuel for optimum power out of your setup . Cory9584
I guess i really need that port work
Hilarious
Yes, port them while you have the bike down. A nice dune ported 4mill would run pretty well.
91banshee
I guess i really need that port work yea man porting , maximum air and fuel makes power . if you rode a stock ported motor with bolt ons and then rode a well ported motor with the same bolt ons you would be like wtf ,looking all over the motor for a nos bottle etc, it really wakes up a banshee and you having a 4mil already port work would be a no brainer. you will like the motor . Cory9584
Whats a better port, a drag port or dune port? I like racing down dirt roads and some trail riding
RagunCajun
Not every builder calls a certain port job: dune, mx etc. Someone's MX port might be another guys play port. You need to talk to person porting it, tell them what time of riding you do and what you want out of it. Go back and forth in the conversation and end up with the best type for your needs. I personaly like flotek but you should talk to a lot of experience "builders" and go with who you want the best. Remeber everything should work together, from the intake, port job, pipes etc. You want the best setup overall. I got my stuff ported and im on pump gas. Runs fine. The hell with race fuel. My biggest issue is traction and driver skill. Edited December 26, 2007 by RagunCajun
Washburn
Rite you dont just go and say you want a dune port, all that is, is a name of how much material is taken out. A builder who ports can tell you he can take more or less out dune port is just a guidline for how much or little material your getting taken out. ported 4mils run hard but you have to be sure you and the builder are on the same page. Talk to someone who will spend time talking with you about your riding style first and foremost then talk about what pipes your running, then you make the choice of domes and timing. you have to think what suspension setup you will be riding on and if you want a longer stock or shorter swingarm for the extra power. Remember you can have all of the HP in the worl but if your not putting the tires to the ground a 400EX would smoke you.
