dave88 Posted November 29, 2007 Report Share Posted November 29, 2007 hi. this is my first post.I have a mostly stock 06 shee and ride exclusivly in the oregon dunes mostly trails and jumps. my thoughts are that the shee is an ill handling monster.we have z400 and love the way it handles. my question is should i upgrade the shee suspension,possibly a 450 front end or just trade it in on a 450? your input appreciated. Well if you get some +2+1 arms and new shocks the banshee will handle 10x better. Then shorten your swingarm and get a +4 axle and it will handle 10x better again. You can jump a banshee pretty big with aftermarket shocks. If you ever plan on raciing and getting serious get a 450. How much money are you willing to put into your shee? dave88 Posted November 29, 2007 Author Report Share Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) 2+1 and aftermarket shocks may be out of my budget. thats why i was looking at the yfz 450 arms and shocks looks like a person could do that for around 350.I guess you answered my question i have never rode a banshee with front suspension upgrades as it is not a common practice for the dunes.mostly the people i know stretch the swingarm andcall it good. A Banshee in OEM form is not a great handling machine. Aftermarket arms and shocks turns it intoa completely different animal. It can be an expensive thing to do all at once, but IMO it's worth it in the long run. If you ever want to check out a bike with middle-of-the-road dune setup, let me know, you can come check out my red bike. Washburn Posted November 30, 2007 Report Share Posted November 30, 2007 Trust me if you buy some good shocks and +2+1 A Arms your SHEE will handle like a dream. I got Elka Elites all around on Lonestar +2+1 and its incredable. Now if you buy a good front end setup and a good rear shock you will be smashing z400s and will definatly be able to handel a 450 with suspension and motor mods. You could also keep all of your stock stuff put all the after market stuff on and you still decide you want a 450 then turn it back to stock and sell the good stuff. Do the upgrades I did and WOW, what a difference feels like a caddy now, And what you would loose in a trade in, is more than enough to do the upgrades. It smooths out the ride on the dunes and takes the harsh hit out of landings. I don't know why anyone would waste money on the yfz shocks, try riding a yfz on the dunes it isn't much of a smooth ride unless your hitting everything balls out like you were motocrossing. If you get a yfz 450 you will still be in it for shocks also to get a considerable improvements to suspension over a stock shee on the dunes, and would you be willing to cross over to the other side of the four strokes? If you want to save money get some works shocks made for about 50lbs more weight than you are unless you barely cruz. Front A-Arms do help but a wider rear axle is what completes the front end. Thank about it. You can have a cushy front end and narrow back end it will still dive. Not as much but it will. If you make the front to stiff to compensate then what... your unhappy. Keep in mind the banshee is made to be an exciting fast ride. You have to pay to get it all. If the budget is 100% of your restriction and you are folding the stock a-arms like I use too then works shocks is a good start or something priced similar. I have custom Axis all the way around and I love them, but I paid for it. I have ridden a lot of shee's and you do get what you pay for. I can not in anyway shape or form ride a banshee with works shocks on whoops like I do mine... but the ones I've ridden weren't built for me. I have tuned mine up. You'll get a million different answers. I honestly think you need to ask a few people to ride theirs, take their body wieght in account and see what you think. You need to really decide your main riding style too... is it just cruzing, 40mph whoops (I love those) or jumping like a mad man (No shock is going to stop a flat crappy landing), just hitting deep whoops at the bottom of a dune and then straight up or mx tracking. You may want to budget for some adjustment of valving and springs too. You may get them and wish the moved slower or rode higher or moved faster and sat lower. A good suspension tech can get you through this. I bet 80% of the people never get it just right from the beginning. The other 20% probably don't know any better or just don't care. Ok, I didn't answer your question so basically, buy all you can afford when it comes to suspension, test and tune, get it right and ride fast.
