V Force 3 Reeds

I have stock cages and Boyesen dual-stage design "Power Reeds" made of fiberglass. I guess they work...my motor runs. Actually, these reeds are a lot better than the OEM stock petals.

I was thinking of getting a set of the V Force 3 cages. How long do these reeds last compared the the Boyesens? Typically, I don't replace the Power Reeds for years. Do these carbon reeds cash out seasonally?

I see a lot of people have these...would you buy them again now that you have run them for a while?

I don't want to feel like I bought a $200 boost bottle. :yelrotflmao:

Thanks, Jay.

My VF3's last as long as the reeds on my old Boyesen RAD Valves. I don't change them out seasonally. I would buy them again, but I usually get them for free..........

Hook a brother up!! I can see it now...it will be like the free rear rotor you had. I could see it now Firehead..."Free V Force3s...but you have to come by and pick them up personally!!" :yelrotflmao:

Shoot...you even sweetened the pot with a tasty local micro-brew incentive if I remember correctly.

I saw some on (Fe)eBay for $189. Might have to check them.

To those of you that have these V Force 3s... did you get more power overall or was it more in the lower, mid, or top end range or did it just give a snappier throttle response? Did adding these reeds richen up the A/F circuit?

I feel the need to go move some sand :whistling:

Thanks, Jay From SanD____eigo.

I have tried to give several things away on here and I could never get anyone to come get it. I hate the Post Office and generally try to avoid it, hence why I didn't want to ship anything unless I was making moiney on the deal.

I think RMATV has a pretty good deal on the VF stuff. I;m not sure about eGay.

I never noticed more power on or off the dyno compared to my RAD valves.............I did notice that they were lighter and produced less of a transient closure curve than a RAD valves. I did not notice a need to adjust my A/F at all. :geek:

  • 1 month later...

I'm still trying to figure out what the direct benefit of installing these reeds is..... :ermm:

If it doesn't make more power either lower, mid, or on the top end, is the primary improvement just a snappier throttle?

Since I already have Boyesen dual-stage reeds, haven't I already picked up most of the improvement to be had from a reed mod?

Thanks, Jay.

Two years on mine, 1 year on race fuel 1 year on methanol...still look great.

And I've got a lot of WOT passes on them....

I think they're a good mod once you get porting, etc.

However, TDR reeds on stock ported cages are almost as good.

What the VFs benefit from is twice the reed surface area....

i have a buddy that just boughts the vf3's and he had to change his jetting he went from a 320 main up to a 370 because it was lean. does this sound right all he has for mods are tr6's pods and the reeds. i was thinkin about buyin the reeds but every one around here is just tellin me to buy aftermarket reeds and keep the stock cages. any reason i should get the vf3's over replacement pedals?

The only way it's lean is if there's an air leak.

Reedvalves give the motor more fuel, sometimes you have to lean the needle one clip spot for them to be spot on.

Did he use new gaskets and make sure the motor is sealed? I've never had to change main jets for reed/reed cages alone...especially that drastically of a change.
