Can you name this part?

Well, I'm getting ready for Sand Mountain, NV. I'm not in my usual routine of repair or prep due to the fact I just got a new (used) toy hauler. Today I fianally got the trailer set up and went to work on the quads. I draine the oil on the Banshee and found a little chuck of metal. When I put the magnetic plug back up to the hole after draing and found the larger 2nd piece. Can some one tell me where this would have fallen off? At this point I'm just out of time to tear down so I will just leave it home unless I can figure it out before Thur. Thanks for and help you can provide,

I just looked in my manual, and it can't be off of the kick start idler gear, because that part is a snap ring. The water pump has an E-clip that goes on the end of the shaft, that holds the gear on, and that's where it must have came from.

No way I'm gonna run it. I'm just worried about how long it was there!

It can't be off of the idler gear, unless someone replaced it with the E-clip, because the manual shows a snap ring, and after I typed that, I remembered replacing mine, and it was a snap ring. It's got to be off of the water pump shaft, or, it's off of one of the shift fork shafts. So far, the only E-clips in the bottom end that I've found in the Clymer's are on the shift shafts, and the water pump shaft. Hopefully it's off of the water pump shaft, so it's an easy fix.

NYUK nailed it on the head!!! Should be from the shift fork rods. Not telling you what to do but i know of several racers that dont even run them...

I run them but have seen some that didnt. The only thing you would have to consider is IF the alum. plugs came out of the left side case by the sprocket and the rods slid out. Highly unlikely.

the last bike i took apart was running like a bear. it was missing them clips.i doubt it will hurt anything.but tearing it down just to put that back is a major operation.if you are skeeeeeeered. and unported, now would be a good time to send your jugs off and put that clip back.

there is 3 total e-clips in a banshee motor. 1 on the water pump gear, I think the one on the kick starter gear is a snap ring, and 2 on the transmission shift fork shafts. Pull the clutch cover, if you dont find it missing off the kicker or the wp.......well then its time to split the cases. I may be wrong on the wp gear, but I know the fork shafts have e-clips.

I just took off the clutch cover. It's not the water pump clip....it is still in place. The more I looked at it, the more I "think" the pump clip could not make it to the drain side due to its size I'm gonna get a new billet impeller and an ez-drain cover. I'm gonna take it on my trip. I was only looking to get 1 more weekend out of it before I started a ground up rebuild. At this point it's not my primary quad but I can't wait till it is. Thanks to all the help guys.

There are three e-clips in the engine. :geek:

Like Jeff Said Its off the rods that holds the shift forks. I have been running without them all summer. No problems what so ever.

I would consider fixing that........if you are making a reasonable amount of power with your engine, it ought to be pretty easy to push down in first gear when down shiftin and send the corresponding shift fork through the side of your case. In a worst case scenario, running all summer without the clips probably means that your top case will be headed for the recycle bin when you finally take the engine apart.
