kojack
I was just at rexberg last weekend and was having problems with my carb slides not going all the way down. THey are Mikumi 35.5 ftz's alky carbs which have worked great until this weekend. If you let off from wot the slides would bottom out fine but if you were putting around they wouldnt drop all the way. I pulled them apart and noticed that the slides felt sticky. Does anyone know if alky gets sticky feeling in the cold. One guy said it was probably bean oil that the previous owner was using that was gumming up in the cold. Anyone ran into that before? Bansh-eman
i havnt used alky (methonal) in many years so im trying to pull something out of my brain housing group from many years back... so dont hold me to it. but i dont recall alky/meth having any issues in regaurds to that in cold temps. they have other issues with how well they run in the cold.. or hell it could be the heat for all i remeber .. its been almost 10 years so i cnt say for sure... ask Dajogejr he ould know he runs alky and lives in mich
theshee
Only problems Ive ever heard of with methanol in the cold if freezing shit up. I know bigred had a hell of a time trying to tune his 4mil last year when it was in the 30s in rock springs.
FASTOYS
I havent run into that with alky but you may want to run Klotz Super Techniplate as it is a bit easier to mix in cold. Also check your slide springs to make sure someone hasent cut them. OTher than that clean the carbs good. I have run alky in 20 degree weather before and ran ok but was VERY hard to start . Must start it out on gas then switch. Much colder than 50-60 degrees Gas actually has the advantage over alky. Alky loves Hot weather. dajogejr
Yeah...I run benoil now, but will probably switch to super techniplate come winter time. Meth bikes are a PITA big time to start in the cold... Ether anyone? Plus....like gas, you gotta give it more fuel in the cold. Try running meth on a frozen lake in the single digits or low teens.... I would check the carb cable ends for frays, clean and lube it with a low temp spray, etc. As said...check the springs, and give the carbs a good cleaning. Benoil can gum up a little in real cold temps, and it doesn't like to STAY mixed in meth for too long in cold weather. Just gotta shake ...shake...shake the fuel can and your bike...
