nunyabinness Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 i have been using one called AVG by GriSoft. it has been working pretty good for me. it updates daily it's free. my only complaint about it is it does a scan everytime it updates and it seems to slow my computer down (but maybe it's just my computer). Coupelx Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 avg is antivirus. from his description, he needs spyware/adware removal although its a good idea to have both I use PC Tools Spyware Doctor. It is without a doubt the best out there. it has removed what nothing else will which is how i ended up with it. how ever its cost $30 a year. the free demo version will detect but not remove. run your fav free remover then run the demo of spyware doctor. spyware doctor will detect what that free one wouldnt even find much less remove. Adaware is probably the best free one but is good for only the most basic of problems. As for antiviris i personally run antivir (free) but avg is just as good. John...go to Microsoft's site, get Windows Defender. It's 95% as good as counterspy. Ad Aware and Spy Bot were king in their day...years ago... together they're not bad...but still lacking. The best Trojan remover used to be Ewido Trojan remover, but they merged with AVG. You can still download it for free and get a fully functional Free trial for 30 days I belive.... CWS Shredder, HiJackThis, McAffee Stinger and SpyWare blaster are all free and very good tools as well... Other free Virus defenders are AntiVir...and if you go to TrendMicro.com, they offer housecall, a free online virus scanner. Panda Online has a good free online virus scanner as well. Coupelx Posted October 2, 2007 Report Share Posted October 2, 2007 i had some shit awhile back that nothing would get rid of. even windows defender. i normally dont use defender as it likes to piss me off. spy doctor is still the best out of everything i have tried. How ever it is a major resource hog and i cant let it run the tray (my laptop is only a year old mind you.) which is a pity because it will detect and remove shit as it tries to install itself. ive sent a few emails back and forth with the developer to see if they can do anything.
