wrx600rr
So, I finally bought a quad a coiuple weeks ago, an 02 banshee! I have never been to silver lake on a quad and its actually been like 11 years since I have been their. So I have read that they are pretty strict. I have a couple concerns with my quad that may affect me getting in! I have fatty pipes on it and I think they maybe a little loud! Does anyone know if they will pass? Thay are new pipes maybe 2 hours on them? my other concern is with the spark arrestors, Do I have these in my pipes or do I have to buy them seperately, fmf fatty gold series pipes! Also, my quad didn't come with a taillight what are the rules on that? I can probably stop at an auto zone and pick up an led strip light or something. Any help would be appreciated. It's a 3 hour drive and I dont want to get up their and have to turn around and leave! Nick

Nick as far as the loudness of the pipes your ok there...they dont have the testing equipment this year....i have cpi inframe drag pipes on my shee and i had no issues. you need to look at the silencer of the pipes you have if there the power core 2's they DO NOT have spark arrestors and you will need to buy a set of clamp ons, they are very strict on the spark arrestor thing....150.00 fine if you dont have em on in the dunes. there are no rules on tail lights that i know of...i dont have one on mine either and again i got in with no issues.. you will need an ORV sticker $16.75 and a state park sticker both on the bike...you can get a daily or a yearly state park sticker.....the yearly's are $24.00 im not sure on the daily's Dan
Twyztid
Yes, I would also like to know. I also just bought one, a 1989, and was thinking of going there yet this year some time. I have the same pipes/silencers. It seems to me that they can't be all THAT strict about the sound there. They may not be fully enforcing the sound laws. I was up there with my truck the last weekend of June and there seemed to be some pretty louds quads there. Trucks too, for that matter. I can't say that I saw anyone with a spark arrestor when I was there in June, but then again, I didn't have a quad then and wasn't really looking that hard. Wouldn't they be VERY noticable at the end of the pipes? The spark arrestors aren't built in to the silencers? you will need an ORV sticker $16.75 and a state park sticker both on the bike...you can get a daily or a yearly state park sticker.....the yearly's are $24.00 im not sure on the daily's You need a state park sticker too? I guess I was under the assumption that was only for the vehicle driving in from the street (regardless if it going into the dunes or not). That's good to know. wrx600rr
well, I just ordered some sparky's spark arrestors from the local shop, should be here friday before I leave. As for the taillights, I think they are only needed after dark! I dont plan on riding in the dark though. Stupid spark arrestors cost me $148.00! Thanks for the help guys!! This is one of the most helpful forums I am on!!
badassbanshee479
take a stick and put it in the tail pipe, if it stops yo have sparkys, if it does not, you better get a set!! my power core 2 fmf silencers have sparkys built in to them! cd07
BE CAREFUL I was up there recently and there are Huge drop offs. The back of the hills went straight down.
Twyztid
Which of the options below do you think I would be better off going with to get some spark arrestors for mine? This may also apply to the person who started this thread. The only mods to my Banshee are FMF Fatty Gold Series pipes, FMF Powercore silencers, and a K&N Filter. I would probably only go to Silver Lake a few times a year and possibly ride the DNR trails in the upper part of the lower peninsula a couple of times. I am new to this so I don't necessarily need the "best of the best". 1. Buy different FMF silencers that have the spark arrestors in them - $270 2. Buy Sparky slip-on spark arrestors for my silencers - $150 3. Buy a pair of used stock silencers that already have the spark arrestor in them - $40 Would the stock ones REALLY hurt performance? Would Powercores be quiet enough with the Sparky's if I re-pack them? Kevin
wrx600rr
I checked my power core 2's and they go straight through. I would rather be safe than sorry so I ordered a set earlier today, as for the drop offs, well i usually always check the area I am riding in before I let loose. Especially now since I have a banshee between my legs! It has been a couple years since I have actually rode a quad in an open area to where I can actually feel the power the machine is capable of making! I know there are plenty of quads out there WAY faster than mine but I just love the stress free feeling it gives me. So anyone else going up this weekend on a shee? All the guys I am riding with have 400ex's and raptor 660's I am the lone 2 stroker! Nick Oh yeah! one more thing: Is there any special rules on the gear to wear?
