dajogejr
I used stock on my 4 mil on gas, 1st gear was useless...but, 2nd gear on was nice...when it'd shit...LOL. I've used 16/39 and currently 16/44 on my 10 mil. I know my bike will pull 17/44 no issues...
Snopczynski
Is there something that it does better when running like a 14/42 compared to a 13/45 (which is the same gearing ratio)????? Is it like a better torque transfer or something? I had a 14/46 on my bike, but I never got to use second gear climbing out of the nasty holes I like to do. Using the bigger sprockets puts less of a bind (so to say) on the chain because its not bending as far to warp around the sprocket. Hopefully someone can think of what I'm trying to say.. Maybe it would be less reistance because the chain links dont have to move as far to bend around the sprocket? sredish
doesn't eliminate but helps with some. it's harder on the chain to bend so much around a 13. I pretty much always run a 15t and adjust the rear accordingly, usually from a 41 to a 38. I like it setup a little taller because it spreads the gears out; lets you hold gears longer. Snopczynski
What size rear tires did you guys run. We run 22x11x8 super lites and having a 14 or 15 tooth front sprocket doesn't allow us to get all the way into 6th in the wide open spots out in the sand. gumby6t9
heres my 2 cents : i have ported a shit ton of banshee cylinders in my day and i have jetted in probably triple that amount ....i think the toomey needles suck plain and simple . ive seen them make banshees run like shit too many times to consider them a good upgrade.they are too fat in the midrange and too lean off idle ,the length and taper doesnt work very well IMHO .their T5 and for mild motors the T6 pipes are decent well thought out exhausts though . What needles do you recommend then?

Snop...most of us run drag strips...300 feet. You'll barely see 5th, let alone never 6th... We run the same tires...probably just a few more paddles... Snopczynski
Hmmmmm. When I used to drag race back in the early 90's we didn't have 22x11x8 super lites then. So I had 20" haulers, gearing on my bike was 13/45. I launched in third and hit 5th before the end of the 100 yard or boxcar hill in Coos Bay and rode out the rest in 5th. So basically nowadays it seems to be better to run the lower gears with tall tires and tall gearing then? So, what are people running for play gearing and tire sizes on the small bikes like mini stroker or ported 350's?
sredish
I'm not a dragger but a trail and duner. In the sand, I run a 15/40 with 21" rear 8 paddle Padla Brats, just for the record.
Snopczynski
Do you ever even see 5th and 6th gear?
sredish
yea. play in the drags with that, 2nd gear starts but we're usually crapping out before I hit 6th. Pulls fine through 5th and into 6th but I haven't topped 6th out in the sand. Also, the drags are flat, not up a hill like they are out in CA. Snopczynski
What is done to this bike with 15/41 gearing? What is it?
sredish
Stock bore/stroke, Gorr MX port, 2-1 Graydon 35mm Airstryker, PT Hi Revs, 7* advanced, 175psi through a Coolhead, lightened flywheel and a Dyna ignition box. Runs like a champ and raced XC with that exact for awhile. First raced xc with the PT mids but didn't like the lack of top end rev, so switched to the PT Hi's. Usually run between a 15/38 and a 15/41 depending on conditions, xc course, etc. In the dunes, I'd throw the 41 on. I've tried a bunch of other pipes but the PT Hi's are my faves. Not really that much, engine-wise. Haven't been on in awhile and it seems to be more populated with 5 mils, 10 mils, cheetahs and just higher higher hp drag machines. I'm not that kinda person, I like a good well-built stock bore machine and followed suit with my 450r until recently punching it to a 480. Wouldn't mind playing with a 4 mil setup but I really want to build an RZ motor. Edited September 20, 2007 by sredish
RZBansheeMan
Hey there "sredish", My project is still in the making but I chose to go with the 4 mil RZ setup ported by Passion. I'm kinda stoked about getting it going, according to Jim, I'm gonna have the best of both worlds, gobs of torque and some stellar topend. He told me, because I'm gonna run the Rockets, that they are gonna hold me back on topend vs. the Shearers. I don't really care about that though, I'm not a dragger either, I just like the looks of the Rockets and they clear the pv assembly.
