RZBansheeMan
Does anybody happen to know the diameter of the shock shaft and the spring on the YFZ 450 front shocks ?
RIPRuck
I'll try to remember to take measurements when I get home tonight.. Whats your reason for asking?
RZBansheeMan
Just for comparison to all three stock banshee shocks. This may sound a little silly, but if the shaft diameter, shock body and spring diameter are sufficient enough, I think with some revalving, maybe a spring swap, that one could possibly be used for the rear of the Banhee. I would have to come up with an Elka link, or possibly make one, and the upper mount might need to be moved just a little, but it might be possible. racer
I get 0.4906" on one of my shafts. What spring D are you looking for? Like wire diameter, or ID?
RZBansheeMan
I get 0.4906" on one of my shafts. What spring D are you looking for? Like wire diameter, or ID? I went to the local dealer and measured a 450 front shock, all but shaft diameter. The shock body is the same diameter, if not real close, and so is the spring I.D. and O.D. If I'm not mistaken, I think the bolts are the same diameter also. The Elka link requires their 367mm lenght shock, which comes to 14.4 inches. I do realize that the 450 front shocks are ~ 15.75 inches long, but I think the upper mount could be modded easily enough. I am convinced one of these could be used on the rear of a Banshee along with a copied Elka link.
racer
I think you are going to cook it. I recall the piston on the rear shock being larger.

racer
Ya, sorry I should have clarified more. The stock rear is 40mm the 450's front is 36mm. Not a big dif I guess.
RZBansheeMan
Well, what do you think, should I pass on the idea ? Just trying to come up with some alternatives to some of these aftermarket pieces that are way too expensive.
