dajogejr
why shouldnt i build a cub for duning and track and trail and strictly only for dragging? my trails i ride arent twisty curvy alotta straight aways where we always race down...i just havent done much draf racing at all because everyone's got a 4 stroke! There are all kinds of topics covering this exact subject. You will be much better off with a set of ported stock cylinders....there is simply no low end on cub cylinders. If you have the money, build a Cheetah motor. Similar in characteristics to a cub, but it has powervalves. A stock stroke cheetah will walk those four strokes, and still be more manageable in the trails. But...you'll be buying new intakes, new head, new reeds, etc. Plus...you'll need a better tranny with a cub or cheetah, trust me... You can do all you want to do with a good set of ported stockers....at 1/3 of the cost. Straight trails are just not the same as a drag strip or the dunes...because at the end of the straight, well...you're still in the trails. klotz_racr
With a set of ported stockers would you need a new tranny? Als0 what clutch would you reccomend for it?

No...unless you go full on drag porting... A drag bike without an override is a joke... Mildly ported should be ok... Then again, if you port it and plan on drag racing a lot, a dunable override might be the ticket. Jeff from FAST has the toughest clutch I've used. From my stock motor in 05, 4 mil cub in 06 and my 10 mil alky drag bike this year...I just can't break it...and it's within a few dollars of a regular old barnett or EBC. If you don't have a monster motor, 3HD and 3 stock springs, bigger HP motor, all 6HD springs...

dajogejr
Lucky dog...LOL... If you go stock stroke or 4 mil, all you need is cylinder, head, pistons, reeds and intakes. You'll have to get exhaust to fit small or large flange, I believe they make both flanges for the Cheetahs...depending on what you get. For 7 mil or bigger, you'll have to get your cases trenched....for the longer stroke. 4 mil cheetah is what I'd buy... However...you're in MI, we have 3 good sand drag tracks and Silver Lake...why don't you build a drag banshee? You have two others, one could be a trail, one a duner/partial drag bike and one a full on drag bike. Best of all worlds... If you decide to go one full out drag race, a DM Cylinder on methanol is the way to go. It's expensive....but, setup properly, you'd be able to beat 95% of the bikes out there...if not more. My next motor will be a 10 mil DM....
